Right i may actually be able to help here for once, hubby Phil has the VFR800 vtech and had similar problems which started out with just the display thingies not being there, it then progressed to no electrics at all and then no start, apparently under the back end tail light thingy a wire is packed in so tight that is shorts out, tell you what i will get him to log on when he gets in and explain,

Right, the wire to the number plate light had worn out on a bolt head under the tail fairing, this was after dismantling the entire bike first Doh!, and after ignoring a post that was put on the VFR Owners Club site. Worth checking it out. Hope you get it sorted soon.

cheers phil i'll check that 2moro in the daylight after work although i should mention after the snow last week i had the same probs although after i let it warm up the LCD worked fine albeit with the clock and trip reset, not unfortunatley the total mileage or i would have cleaned it and rode it to europe then sold it as nearly-new!! pmsl

Rev,
When the LCD drops below 32deg f. the liquid crystals tend to become solid crystals and not work. As for the reseting of the clock and trip, that usualy happens if the voltage to the computer drops below 9 volts. I had this happen on my scoot on several cold mornings. The thing would hardly crank over, but when it did fire up... the clock had to be reset.
