As racism seems to be the topic of the moment I thought I would ask this question. Jade Goody is getting loads of grief over her poppadom comments and others in reference to Shilpa, who thinks that Jermaine Jacksons comments were racist when he referred to Jades mum as 'White Trash'.

Need some American input here. "Po' white trash" is a common enough term over there ditton "trailer trash" but I don't know the context.
Reflex reaction goes that the use of the word "white" makes it racist when spoken by a gentleman of colour (As others have said, the word "trash" alone is adequate enough) but, as I say, I don't know how race neutral the phrase is.
Goddam foreigners!.
Mark, did I read your post right? Was it Shilpa who said it was racist? If so it shows remarkable forebearance on her part.

Why White trash then hammer, why not just trash? Would the term Black trash be ok if a person was for instance of West Indian descent and as rough as Jades mum or would we be called Racist if we said that?

yeah mark,we would..because here in europe,we are politically correct.....but in some of these countrys,they can say what they want...thats wy i got psd off last night,by a muslim,telling us,our country has gone to the dogs.we educated them,fought for them.nuff said..oh,and we drilled their oil,made em rich.

Its strange. After buying a nursing home in London and taking over a staff of about 55 I soon realized that Black people Want to be called Black and to refer to them as any form of colour was insulting...There are good and bad in every culture and every different colour and creed. I hate plebians of all . That includes Jade Goody. Also It is the do gooders of this world that actually set the standards not the Black people or the white people. If we had strength at the top of the ladder this would nt be happenng. Lack of thought before speaking , and lack of the whole facts are as dangerous a weapon as a kalashnikov. It always seems to the same reason that people are not at rest . the unfairness or injustice of the scales balancing in one favour or another. The only people who are proffiting from this are the press at the moment.. I went to see Blood Diamond the other night and it made me sick . No SICK if I can put this strongly enough. And When I had a great deal of money to invest I was invited to Lloyds palatial head office to ask if I would mind my money being invested in the purchase of weapons... Rascism is ok for the city besuited who cover it with an Oxford accent . But true English people from wherever ..I dont think would stand by and watch the destruction of any ethnic race. I continue to hold a certain faith inthis nation as people who will stand by the deprived and struggling and I dont think as much as I dislike her even Jade Goody would stand and watch black people being mutilated by weapons we have supplied. Not even for a diamond.
