tisnt the european immigrants that are the problem froog. yer right they do come here to work, and as long as companies pay em at least the minimum wage and make sure the PAYE stuff is done properly both the worker and the country benefit. A lot of the young folk from poland and elsewhere come here to work and save cash to take back home to pay for their education or to set up a business, the tax they pay here goes to bolster the pension fund. got no problem with euro workers at all.

Young people from all over the world come to britain, not to ponce off of us, but because there countless opportunities for them here. They are not steeling anything from Brits, just working hard to get it. If only people realised that countries like Poland and Slovenia have no industry because of other countries greed, maybe people would start to realise why we have so many "immigrants" moving to the UK to enjoy the luxury of a career and good social life. You'd be surprised how many immigrants earn the same as brits, rather than just the minimum wage.... why you ask? because they work harder to earn more than the "lazy, get out of doing as much work as possible" brits! Rant over....

Yes Mike it is an up and coming country, how long has it not had an industry for? And how long will it take for that industry to be bouyant? Could you imagine if the school leavers of the UK had no industry to drive their careers in? This is the situation that these other countries are in, there economy forces the children to work immediately when leaving school to survive and help their parents.

ive just taken on 6 polish lads recently, and I have no probs in doing so. they turn up on time, work bloody hard all day and actually want to come to work. they do take jobs of our nationals but only because most of the people we employ just cant be bothered, poor time keeping, poor work rate, and generally dont give a f***.

I refer you to previous comments I have made on this topic. These people come from countries where "rights" are still thin on the ground yet responsibilities are numerous, damn right they want to work! they know what it is worth. And no, I'm not a Tory! (I, unlike the bitch queen Thatch, do not believe tha the concept of society is, to use her word, "dead") I do not espouse any return to Victorian values, merely a return to a view of society as an inclusive, supportive, regulatory body.

Sorry Froog, got to come back to one point you made, you're right about the English coming to feel slightly ashamed of our past, it's true, there's a lot there to be ashamed about but probably no worse than any other country has done under the guise of nationalism. Bottom line, there are many aspects of English / British society and culture that are good and to be celebrated, one of which is a cosmopolitan acceptance of foreign cultures (take a dekko (!) at all the words that have slipped into common usage from the Empah, look at the White Moghuls, take a look at places like Croxteth) but the underlying position is one of assimilation; "We accept your culture and may be interested to learn from it but we will not become it". Gods this is a messy argument I'm making here but to quote a damn fine band (Show of hands) "Without our stories and our songs, how will we know where we come from? I've lost St. George in the union jack, it's my flag too and I want it back". Rambling pish but it's where I stand.
