my xj9 which is normally a totally reliable beastie has suddenly started to let me down. The electrical system has been plauging me of late (not charging and then no electrics at all).
Anyway i have managed to evict the gremlin that caused the no electric problem (a worn out ignition switch , replacement cost 30 odd quid and only took one day to be delivered WEMOTO good company for pattern parts). so the bike now runs again, though still isnt charging , but i can live with that for now (got a new reg rec unit which i will fit this weekend which will hopefully cure it), but no sooner had one set of gremlins been given the boot when another 2 moved in so now no indicaters and no horn either.....BASTIDS ARGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH.
everything was connected up but nope it wont play ball at all so another fecking session of fixing is in order.
oh and youd think that fitting a new igniton switch would be a simple job wouldnt you? hell no, not on an XJ900F it isnt! i had to remove the fairing and the clocks etc just to get at the hidden bolts that hold the switch in place and even with everything out the way it was a total ballache getting at the 8mm bolt heads cos they are recessed. 2 1/2 hours it took FFS. and to top it all i cant find some of the bolts for mounting the fairing again.... fecking theiving gremlins !.....
oh well all bad temper washed away as i took the bike out for a quick spin to see if anything else wanted to pack in but all was well. well apart from the fairing rattling . Rain stopped play shortly after getting back from the quick spin so i will leave the bike be for today and maybe have another go tommorow if it isnt raining when i get back from pooter school.
I hate electrics!

ahh but electrics notwithstanding my XJ will still be running sweetly when she has been twice round the clock..... cant fault the engines in em at all. mine has over 80k on it still on the original bore and camchain etc though i reckon a camchain will be needed before too long (say another 20 k lol)

i didnt have many probs with the electrics after the first week, kept blowing fuses but that was due to a dodgy earth on the horn although toward the end it had a tendancy to fire on only 3 cylinders, then the gearbox was a little temperental to say the least.......it will however always have a place in my heart, it being my first proper 'big' bike!

im determend to get this one twice round the clock so only another 120 k to go give or take.... i reckon it will need at least one more tank by then though and as they are like rocking horse shit to find it will have to be restyled and get a custom tank , hmmmm a set of 5 gallon fatbobs would look good and a lowerd subframe of course and a few other bits too. but that will have to wait for now.
i would definatly get another xj900f but low mileage ones arnt that common so i guess it will have to be a divvy next time.

you dont have to follow the family line of the XJ do you m8? i mean the XJ's arent the best looking beastie's out there but the divvies are fugly!! wouldnt you prefer a fazer or maybe a big CB?

not fussed by their looks its a workhorse. i like the fact that they are solidly reliable and go on forever... they make a great winter hack or a tourer they are just a great all round bike. im not at all bothered by new bikes ( i cant affored em) the divvy is indeed pig ugly but i just dont care if they are as reliable as the xj900f i will be happy. plus i really like not having to feck about adjusting chains shaft drives are the biz on hacks.

oh they are all simple enough to adjust but it means carrying various tools with the bike if going any distance and its a pain in the arse fiddling about at the side of the road and yer mits get filthy and then the insides of yer gloves too. sod that shafty all the way for distance work. plus the xj9 gets 50 mpg and has aboput a 200 mile range and the seat is still comfy after that distance too.
