Hello all, long time no see. Been super busy these days, so haven't had time to visit.
I'm looking for some comments about the following bikes, you know, good / bad / problems.
Honda CB 750
Suzuki Katana 750
Suzuki GSX750 '81
Mate of mine is looking to get himself a bike, and these are some that he has been looking at.

Hi TC welcome back.
As for the bikes I`m biast, i had a `81 GSX750, blueprinted engine and russ collins drag pipe on it. Sounded mean as F@@@, Was a bit nippy too.
The hondas had big end problems as i recall, and the Kat was a GS750 in new trim, a solid bike but not too rapid.
So go for the GSX750 nice retro looking beasty and easy to service yourself if your that way inclinded.

the katana 650 was a gs motor but the 750 kat was a gsx motor. go for the katana if you like the style but you will pay a premium cos there aint that many around at a guess. the gsx750 is a good bike and not too shabby when it comes to speed but nowt on a modern 750. the honda is ok but nowt to write home about but plenty of em sold and if its still running it probably will go on forever. As with all second hand bikes look em over properly first. look for worn items such as chain and sprockets (expensive) tyres (expensive) shocks (can be expensive) brake pads/shoes cheap as chips and will save yer life also check the discs are within service limits as they cost about 120 minimum each. check the swingarm bushes and wheel bearings also the headstock bearings. look for pitting on the fork tubes (only where the tube actually slides.... dosnt matter if they rusty above the area of travel). ask about how often the oil and filter were changed (find out wether fully synthetic oil was used, very important cos if it has been used you dont want to mix mineral oil with it as it will cause problems.) basically ask lots of questions. if you are dtermined to buy the bike use worn stuff to get the price down, but if the engine makes rattleing noises walk away likewise if it smokes like a chimney.
if you buy the bike make sure to budget for oil and filter and plugs as well and when you get the bike home do an oil and filter change. change the plugs as well.(you know its been done now!) also get a manual haynes will do if you cant find the proper factory one. once you have the manual do a full service (obviously not the oil and filters cos you just did em) change the fork oil too!!!!
oh and if the bike is covered in crap and oil dont buy it either cos if the bloke cant be arsed to keep it clean then will he have been bothered to keep on top of maintenance?

One more thing, I'm looking for a manual for the GSX750E '81.
Doesn't seem to be one specifically for the bike, anyone know what other manuals to look out for that will serve the same purpose?
I have a manual for GSX750E/S '84 - '86, but the engine is very different. I dont think its the same as the GS750 either, cos that isn't a 16 valve engine like the GSX.
Advice?
