My daughter nearly got wiped out this morning by a 6th form kid who has obviously only just passed there test. we are on the road to school stationary in traffic so sandie and loads of other kids get out of the car and cross the road infront of our cars to get on to the pavement. All of a suddern like a bat out of hell this car comes flying down the outside of us so he can pull up and park further down the road. (froog, he was in a corsa btw) now although there is nothing really wrong with what they did (there was nothing coming up) he did it at such speed that he was not anticipating any child walking across the road, luckly sandie had just made a step forward when she looked to her right again and saw him so she had time to pull back, but it must have been close cos she had a real look of shock on her face.

see thats where speed traps and cameras need to be..... outside schools! and the punishment for speeding past a school (at either start or finishing time) should be a ban no excuses!
the local primary school where i live is at the top of a hill. at the base of the hill is a sign that flashes orange lights morning and evening (ie school kids going in and going home again)
iv lost count of the number of times i have been overtaken by idiots going past the school early in the mornings, only a matter if time before a child is seriously injured or killed.

Delighted your daughter didnt become another sad statistic, and i totally agree with whats been said regarding speeding etc, but i feel very strongly that children and adults should use designated crossing areas as in zebra crossings and patrol people, when /if they are available. I'm in no way defending a careless speeding driver, but in order to give any driver a chance kids or adults need to act wisely about where they cross a road. And also about parking responsibly outside schools etc too many mums and dads park on zig zags! And i am a mum who drops her kids off at school!

From a past experience driving riding in America, there is a blanket 15 MPH speed limit by schools, break that limit at your own peril....................If the parents don't drag you out the cops will and you`ll be severely punished.

Thats very true plus u are not permitted to overtake any school bus while it drops off the children !
