I know a few of you guys are dog owners and I'm really worried about Jester, my 3yr old German Shepherd. From time to time we found little blood splats on the kitchen floor and couldn't work out where they were coming from. I checked him all over but no sign of damage or yelping etc etc. I assumed he was cutting his teeth on a bone type chew he had. Anyway we took the chew away and the blood spots returned. I checked him again but found they were coming from his willy - poor little dog!! His wee wee is ok but I'm dead worried. I have him booked in tomorrow evening at the vets but can anyone put my mind at rest before hand?
Sorry to be such a wuss but I really love my dog. He's my best mate.

My staffy has done this in the past.
Without being too crude, he got a massive hard on that went dry, he couldn't get it back in and it got sore, then started to weep.
Easiest and cheapest way is a pair of latex gloves and a jar of vaseline.
LOL ........ What have I gone and said :-0

might be balantitis, which is an infection of the sheath, quite common, is there a slight discharge?

thanks for suggestions guys. gixxer I don't think there's a discharge, just what appears to be natural lubrication. He's absolutely fine in himself, full of beans as usual.

as long as its fresh blood not brown/clotted then he's probably got a wee cut that will heal ok. he has probably damaged himself doing what dogs can do because they can!
hopefully all will be ok. dogs do heal very quickly.

Get the vet to check him for prostatitis as my Malamute suffered from this - we treated him with chemicals to begin with and this seemed to work for a spell but ultimately the poor dog had to be castrated. Alot of 'entire' males suffer from this especially if they are not breeding dogs. It just amounts to an over production of testosterone. Passing blood from the penis and bilateral hair loss are good indicators for this - also, don't discount Cushings disease.
Best of luck.

thanks guys. got puncture on truck on the way to vet so postponed for day. cleared up in that time so rang vet and she said keep an eye, explained some of things it might be. I've checked for wounds, bumps and tender bits and he's very happy and playful. Took him to Matlock Bath today, he loved it. Will keep close eye on his willy, lol and keep u posted. thanks again xxx
