I had to take my parent's golden retriever Bonnie, to the vets to be put to sleep yesterday. It was a very difficult thing to do and I was with her at the end. At least I saved my parents from having to go through this. The hard thing was getting into the car afterwards and seeing mum and dads faces. She was 12 years old and my dad thought it was time. She was in pain and had difficulty in walking. But oh boy does it hurt.

went through something similar with my yellow lab zak about 5 years ago .it was very sad but he had cancer and was starting to suffer. i still miss the big daft happy grin that he had. Max the puppy wandered around for days afterwards looking for his pal , he loved to crawl all over zak and nick his chew sticks . zak for his part let him get away with it and nothing more than the occaisional warning growl. He pretended he didnt like the pup but once the pup had fallen asleep he would pull the young one into him and with his paw around him go to sleep.

Really sorry to hear that Mel. Had to put my yellow lab down 10 yrs ago. She was 16 yrs old and had cancer. I took her for her fav thing the morn of "the day". We went for a 2 hr truck ride with her in the front seat. Happiest I'd seen her in a long while. Only consolation was the vet said she'd feel no pain.

All I can say to you is that Bonnie was a really beautifull dog. Only proud that we were there trying to get her to swim for the first time. Remember the good things about her life, 'cause there was a lot. You were very brave.xx
