Scenario: You are in a job which is not bad, but not really 100% where you want to be. Work environment is good and the people are friendly. An offer comes along offering you a chance the job you want to do, and offering more money. The catch, lose a part of which is your identity due to dress code. (I have long hair, they want me to cut it). What would you do?

Unfortunately no compromise on the length. Something about looking neat?!?! My hair always looks neat, bastards. As far as "just being hair" goes, I don't see it that way. Its a part of me, a choice that I have made. I have always said that I would keep my hair long until I start going bald, then I would shave it all off. lol

No employer can tell you to cut your hair, do women in the job have to have short hair, neither can they make a man dress as a man or a women dress as a women, it comes under the sex discrimnation act, however not sure if that applies where you live , check it out

if they have stated he must have short hair ok they may not employ him but he has grounds then to kick up a fuss, ie trade unions etc, employers do not like that sort of publicity

TC, An employer can have a dress code and enforce it! It seems a shame to lose a job which would suit you for the sake of a hairstyle! Life sometimes is a series of compromises. Cutting your nose of to spite your face springs to mind! Good luck whichever way you jump. Outlaw.

Not looking to kick up a fuss. Justs trying to decide whether it's worth it. If they have a problem with my appearance, what else will they nitpick about? Is that going to make my work environment uncomfortable? Then again, if they needed me as much as they say they do, surely they would be willing to let something like hair slide?

I'd tell them to feck off.... cut my hair you're havin a laff. I'd rather be happy in my personal life than at work, after all not many people would work unless they needed the money to survive! I work to live, not live to work. But I suppose everyone's different. Peace x

Thanks for the input. There are a few things that they require, which I am willing to change, but my hair? Don't think I can work for a company that has no room for compromise. If they can't respect my wishes, they don't deserve my wisdom.
