Oh no another desision, time for a blonde moment i think! ok i was all geared up to buying this 600 today and i had a phone call from a person friendly with my lovely bike instructor, offering me a standard GPZ500. H reg. It needs the swing arm re-something or other, and it needs new fork seals, other wise mechanicly sound. The GPZ600 has the fancy exhusts and nice expensive tyres and is a race replica, with a small electrical fault, it turns over but wont catch on. They are both lovely bikes and both £500. I just dont know what to do. HELP!!!

looks and fancy things are not really the issue Sev - not for 500 quid anyway - If you want one of these bikes, go for the one thats going to cause you less trouble and money to maintain - you can always add on fancy bits when you get the time and money - If its just to gain more experience on a bigger bike then don't spend a penny more than necessary to keep it on the road.

both bikes could be fine once they are sorted. the 500 is probably a better bet for you though as it is physically smaller and lighter than the gpz 600. the swingarm probably needs new bushes, whereas the 600 may have other problems the 500 should be cheap to insure tho the 600 would be a classic and also quite cheap.you should go see the 500 and try it for size if its comfy for you in the height of seat ect. at least you know the 500 is a runner (swingarm bushes are a peice of piss to sort out, where as electrical problems can be a total swine to trace tho if the bike fires but dosnt catch it could be a carbouration or compression problem) go for the one that will cost you the least money .

damn !!! i forgot to say check the fork tubes for rust pitting if they are pitted they need to be replaced or rechromed and that could prove to be expensive (about 120 quid to get rechromed plus the cost of the rebuild about 7 quid for seals another few quid for fork oil and labour charges). errrrrrrrrr nope cant think of anything else.

Im currently leaning towards the 600 as its comming from a reliable source who has now mentioned that when i have it fixed he is going to sort out the MOT for me and pay for it....
