the most important thing bear is to really think of the positive reasons why you want to quit. Your local giving up centre or doctors surgery should hold smoking sessation courses and you can get the patches and only pay normal prescription charges. The first thing really to do is make an appointment with you doctor and he will explain the process to you. Failing that go cold turkey and stick a carrot or something like that in your mouth or just ride your bike all day and never take your helmet off instant quitall

Don't start in the first place.

Using patches does take the edge off wanting to smoke, but u've got to want to seriously give up. I smoked 40 a day, started on the patches and was fine, didnt have a fag for 9 days, but gave in to temptation. Good luck mate

hmm well i better go get some more patches then, will see the quack this week sometime to get some and try again to quit. i think i'm gonna have to stop going in the pub for a while as this is when i most want to smoke but seeing as i'm going on the piss this weekend i suppose i'll quit next week sometime. thanks for the advice folks.

worked for a mate
buy something with a loan / hire purchase so the money that should go on cigarettes is instead spent on the car/bike etc. If you can't buy them plus you have a positive goal to keep you off them.

Gave up last year using the lozenges. Tried gum and patches in the past but the lozenges were better.
Found they helped better at those times when you light up by habit, in the pub, after you get off the bike ect
The mint nicotenel ones don't taste to bad either.

P.S. ive not smoked for over 8 years and from day one i never missed it i never used patches or any other chemical just willpower,i reall hope you can do it,think of what you cuold buy with the dosh you save........(new bike)

As vibs says, i didnt use any patches or gum just willpower. Am not 8/9 months smoke free, the 1st month was a bit shitty, but after that it easy, rem i was on 40/60 a day. It also helps when the doc says its really gonna kill you, and thats why you have been collapsing.
So willpower, and full cacks @ the thought of pegging it done it for me :-)

i tried to stop once lasted 3 months and when i saw weight pile on i went back to em. mark once stopped for 7 years and then started again. all these times have been done with nothing but will power but its very hard if i was u i would try some patches or gum or something it may help. the main thing is u have got to want to stop otherwise it won't work, i don't want to thats why i've just lit a cig up lol sorry
