i had a look at the oil cap on my 53 plate 125 varadero and there is a white cream on there. is that too much of a bad thing or is it just needing a good run. its only been used to go to work on which is a mile from me house

that signifies moisture in the oil, the oil is not getting hot enough, you need at least to change the oil and give it a bloody good run, a mile each way a day you should be walking or cycling

Erm um well um not erm yeah OK then

even if you love your bike to bits!

Just an idea, even though you have sorted it, check the crank case breather pipe/valve is clear.
If you have a manual or a friendly mechanic it/he will help.

If you can keep your head while all about you are losing theirs, you probably haven't grasped the seriousness of the situation!
