For those planning a ride to Cat and Fiddle this year i have some info.

The police or council..not sure who..have installed 8 sets of permanent average speed cameras along the whole length.

First 1 is just outside Buxton where the new 50 mph limit starts..last one is about 3/4 mile before you get to Macclesfield...just before the 30mph limit.

Be aware.

wow! you're pretty handy to have around!

If you can't get it going with bungee cords and electrician's tape it's serious.

yeah but they cocked up cos theres a short cut with a higher speed limit which renders £800,000 worth of cameras useless

Yes Nick...i know the short cut too.

But the system is set up so that if can use any 2 points of reference.

Basically it can do an average between all 8 cameras or alternatively it can use just 2 of them.

think the best option is to have a play on some bends then pull in for a ten minute stretch of the legs etc..and then set off again.

I spoke to the installers and queried why the cameras are set up to look at rear number plates only..ie not at drivers faces..which most others are set up for. They didnt know..or want to say..but its obvious they are aimed at catching bikes.

not sure if theres a legal "discrimination" thing there. Either way need be carefull i guess.
