Well, I'm so disgusted with these new so-called bikers. I grew up riding behind my mommy and daddy on their bikes. I started riding in the dirt in 1965 at the age of 5. I bought my first streetbike a 1964 H-D Panhead ias a basket case at age 14, and had her going with the help of my daddy and his biker brothers at age 15 1/2 when I got my learners permit. I rode that pan 30K miles until some old bittie wiped her out when I was 18. My next bike was a Honda 750, and I rode it over 70K miles in 5 years. I had over 100K miles expirence street riding by age 23. I've owned 4 H-D's, 3 Triumph's, 2 BSA's, a Jawa, 2 BMW's, and several Jap bike's. Now it's a life style ? Huh ???? These bed wetting sissies buy a new H-D, or whatever, and they are an instant biker. BULLS**T ! They didn't pay their dues ! They would be on the ground in a fetal posation sucking on their thumbs if they had to spend one day riding my Enfield. FU*K IT. I'm just a motorcycle rider now.....

feel exactly the same mate! ive seen middle aged guys wearing cowboy hats sitting on harleys in the dealers, too much money! one guys wife said he wanted a 'dyno rod!' lol lol lol ive ridden since 16 on the road had my own shop and currently own a sportster, gpz 1100 (96) , gsxr 750 and a cd 175! so dont worry mate! they soon get it out of thier system, one 'chap' thought my 96 1100 was an old 900r , he thought his 1000rx was newer! 'not seen one of those in years he said!' he'd taken his to a main dealer to change his front pads! just passed his test , early 40s! lol

Thing is Gixx, you had a bike shop. Personally I was a DR for a few years so it was quicker and cheaper for me to learn to do brakes chains and engines. Some never have a clue.

Same with cars, why the AA and RAC make fortunes really!

However I agree you should know basic maintenance, lack of that is a danger to all other road users!

If you can keep your head while all about you are losing theirs, you probably haven't grasped the seriousness of the situation!

Re: brakes ...

The flintstone style method of stopping is an idea when the pads have worn out!

just a thought for the non-pad changing bicycle riders!

See...everyone has to start somewhere...to me there are experienced folk and people who dont have a clue, and like to ask others in the know for thei k nowledge, which I am sure most folk who ride do constantly despite what they know or how long they ride?

To be honest, if you ride 2 wheels..does it matter how long you have ridden or what you know so long as you are still on a learning curve. No matter how long you have ridden or how many times you stripped ya bike down and put it back together again, theres one underlying thing that runs round my head..... riding is total enjoyment, a world to get lost in..and along the way ..to make some great pals. So all I can say is have a gripe, moan, lose ya rag whatever, but always remember, we have a common bond, even if your a learner!

Oooops think you caught me at wrong time of month roflmao!!!!!!!!

I really just dont care anymore.
I've had ***FILTERED WORD*** loads of bikes and scooters [and one or two mopeds too] I can change brake pads, oil and filters too and in my time have ripped a few engines down and re built em [some of em even worked afterwards] I dont car if your a learner or an all year round tuff guy who rides in the rain...... I just dont care do you hear me? do you get where I'm coming from? do you know where your going? fine, have a nice day.

I agree with spacie, a biker is a biker, and once a biker always a biker, dont matter how many years of experience you have, it doesnt make you better than the guy thats just passed, road sense is all it takes to be a good rider, after all you can strap a monkey to ya seat put it on full throttle and it will hang on in a staight line, anyone that says they know all there is to know about biking is an accident waiting to happen, you can learn something new everyday.
