Since it's introduction, the Motorcycle CBT has helped reduce the number of accidents involving Motorcyclists. If everyone taking a Car Test was to hold a Valid CBT, then we might see a reduction of New Car Driver incidents. Even by taking the CBT, you are getting better road awareness skills, which you don't get through driving alone.

Valid reasoning, only problem is the "car" drivers don`t and will not give a toss to their possible expanded perception of the road around them.

Been proposed loads of times, trouble is "Rich tart" in " posh house" does not really give a ***FILTERED WORD*** about any other road user let alone a motorcyclist. This mentality will never be overcome no matter how may of us put names to petitions that carry no weight.

Harsh, but true.

As a new rider myself Ox, I didnt realise how bad it was for motorcyclists until I did my CBT, I also didnt realise how bad my observational skills were.

My sister is just doing her car test, she has failed twice, though she is constantly being told that she is a good driver, due to lack of observation even though I dont think the CBT would help with her car driving skills it would mean new drivers might be more observant at least until the metal shell they live in becomes second nature.

As for "Rich Tarts" well they will always be a law onto themselves and anything that brings more understanding of motorcyclists to the main stream I would agree with.

Totally agree m8ty, passed my test in 1981 for bike and car in `88. We were taught differently then, quick spin around the block and that was it!!!
Many I know today fail due to "bad observation" that includes bikers. People forget that the one thing that protects lives is that extra last look around. You drive a van a lorry a car or ride a bike its always down to observation. A mobile stuck to the side of your head is always going to be a disaster. ( Had to get that one in)
Glad your aware of this and hope you and your sis have an incident free driving/riding experience.

Happy new yr to all

It is a real fact that Bikers make safer car drivers-the reasons are obvious:so why dont "they" make it law that if you want to drive you have to take a bike test and ride a bike (say-under 600cc) for 2 years and if you have a clean and accident free record THEN you can take a test to drive a car: restricting you to 2 years under 1000 cc then up to 1900cc and a seperate test for over 2000cc( all cars over 3000cc are outlawed to save the enviroment)-Yellow for Primeminister-Vote yellow (oh I woke up:(

why not follow our present governments passion for passing laws to protect us from ourselves and ban driving in public places oh and riding as well cos im sure they are thinking about that one. maybe better to keep quiet just accept that car drivers dont care about us and hope the health & safety brigade leave us alone

I dont know about the health and safety brigade, I am starting to work out who rides and not by the look on the face when I tell them I ride.

They then fall into one of two categories

1. People who have never sat on or been near a bike.
2. People whose other half have never sat on a bike and now will not let them near a bike.

Both tell me how dangerous bikes are and then I am going to end up dead and with a wife and four kids how could I be so stupid.

Had one the other day tell me 1 out of 11 bikers get killed on the road every year (he was category 2, though he then told me IF he was allowed to ride again he would get a scooter)

my argument with this is there are so many bad bike test centers about that people taking their cbt are learning nowt.look at all the scoots that ride like ***FILTERED WORD*** s and end up having accidents.until we get our own house in order i dont see how we can impose our thoughts on others.the direct access is a joke.do any of us really think that a weeks training is enough to let us go out an buy a blade to ride as fast as we like?is it balls.my instructor didint do a weeks training.you had lesseons same as a car,two or three hour sessions and he put you in for your test when he thought you were damn well ready and not before.he even gives people their money back on a cbt if he thinks they shouldnt be on the road.this is responsibility.theres loads round here that just put people through a test.any arse can pass a test.i asked my mates who hadnt passed with my instructor about counter steering.whats that?was the reply.bloody hopeless.personally i would put a limit on new riders.600cc is more than enough.why should a driver listen to a biker when he sees some newly passed tosser riding poorly at 150 mph on a blade?im all for biker rights but if we dont put ourselves right we shouldnt criticise others.

oh and i do get het up about people moaning about persecuted bikers all the time.i dont ride slow by any means but ive been bombing along and had mister power ranger nearly have me off on a blind bend cos he wants to overtake something thats not doing warp factor 10.ive also had scoots have me off, seen born agains bin their new r1s,had harley riders oblivious to everythin on the road an others just not being considerate to others, including bikes.there are just as many bad bikers as car drivers in my opinion and we should sort it out.im not going to be hypocritical and say to some car drivers!watch out for bikes you tosser" when hes got mr r1 nearly scaring him half to death on a country road with a dodgy overtake.if you want to keep biking freedom you must understand that power comes with responsibility.ride fast by all means, just dont take anyone else with you and dont make yourself look like a pillock.

i think that is a great idea but it will never get to see the light of day
not all scoot riders ride like they took their brain out and left it at home but there are a lot of kids that do
unfortunatly the only way the will learn is to fall off and hurt themselfs
