i was talking to my father a few weeks ago and he was tellin me about my nan havin a bike licence a long time ago.

he was sayin that one day they was riding up a steep hill just by calne where they lived and that my nan didnt realise she had to change down gears.

he then went on to say that my nan got slower and slower and was virtually at a walking pace when she toppled over.

now me father being the nice guy he is ran back to help thinkin there was something really wrong when my nan told him wat happened he nearly wet himself laughing.

i know look at my nan in a whole new light and smile when i realise where i get my biking blood from.

merry xmas to all the old (and not so old) bikers out there

my nan [God rest her soul] to my knowledge never had a bike but my mum did for a while back in the late 60's.
Daft begger bought a Lambretta Li150 and slapped L plates on it and off she went....... literaly.... into first gear, reved the nuts off it and droped the clutch and WOW..... front wheel in the air and she flew off the back and landed on her arse.
She gave the scooter to me and bought a brand new Yamaha 50 step thru in the belief that less cc's and automatic clutch would make for safer take-offs, lol.
First day she tried the little Yamaha was her last [she gave up riding bikes exept as a pillion for life]
she got the thing going and warmed it up for a few minutes then decided it was time to go sooooooooooo she revved the nuts off it and pressed the gearshift into first and with a crunch of gears the front wheel flew up in the air and mum flew off the back of the bike.
I got myself a 'nearly' brand new Yamaha 50 to add to the Li 150 Lambretta I already had [as well as my own bikes]
My mum is now going on 82 and still recalls her days on bikes, she thinks I'm mad for riding one at only 57 but hey..... at least I know how the clutch works. hehehehe
