whats the best antispyware or firewall out there?
runnin virgin pcguard at the moment and its pretty crap

Norton is a nightmare and slows your pooter down.
I use various ones Filescab, comodo avg.
Yet to have a problem.

Every software has it's flaws!
If your looking for paid software McAfee is the best anti-virus and Checkpoint is the best firewall... you wont like the cost though!
Free software go to comodo.com for their firewall and anti-virus or use AVG anti-virus, either are ok for the job. If you really want to be secure I would advise you go buy a hardware firewall from D-Link and use that instead as it's cheap enough for the job.
Also point to remember... Anti-Virus/ Anti-Spyware is only as good as it's updates and no match to be honest for good security practices such as not downloading from "peer to peer" or dodgey sites which are likely to contain hidden malicious code (don't expect your run of the mill anti-virus to find it).
