me and fran took 3 of the kids up to the war memorial this morning, so as they could do the 2 minute silence along side the veterans. we got there only to find one old paratrooper there, standing on his own. thats it, another young couple arrived shortly after we did but that was it for 11 O`clock. i felt ashamed at the world we live in. everyone was walking/driving by just as they would on any other day. couldnt possible waste 2 minutes of there valuable lives. after a brief chat with the ex service man,(28 years he had served) he thanked us for coming and especially for bringing the kids. just felt liked we owed him so much more. hope it wasnt like this everywhere. hope some places still have pride in our past.

I had the oppurtunity about 7 years ago to go around Normandy where they stormed the beaches and I was amazed how many of the older people were so respectful to us (even though no possible way I fought in the war).
It is something I will never forget and my children when they are old enough will be shown where our freedon was won and all the lives that were lost to get us that freedom, they will not learn that from American biased movies about that time but I will take them and show them the horror of the graves with people not even out of teenage years fought for what we have today.
I am saddend that people do not know what they are showing respect for on a day like this.

That does seem sad you're right. I always wear my poppy and my family always make sure that our kids understand just what was sacrificed for us to live our lives as we do today. We moan about high taxes but we don't fear for our lives everyday like many people do in other countries.
I observed 2 minutes silence and said a quiet thank you to my grandfathers, no longer with us, for their part in it all too. Always brings a tear to my eye but I'm also very proud.
I also saw all the scouts and brownies walking by to the church this morning and my god son did a reading for his scout pack.
Gushing as it may sound, thanks to all those who suffered and died, and to their families. Some of us will always remember.

I was part of a remembrance parade on remembrance sunday, my TA colleagues and i were proud to attend such an occasion and to show respect to our fallen heroes........
I felt a huge amount of pride when marching in the parade and normal people of Coventry applauded as we went past......there are still good people out there that appreciate what our fore-fathers have done for us.
