for the last few nights i have heard a rustling late on at night coming from the kitchen, i would go through to investigate and wasnt able to see anything (Max my black lab was going ballistic so i new there was something there). in daylight i had a good look around and found a load of mouse shi* so out with some traps. now i kind of like mice and didnt really want to kill the little furry beasty but i needed rid of the little blighter, i have got a humane trap that catches them and holds them overnight (alledgedly) so i set that one baited with peanut butter and set it up near where the droppings were. and i set a more traditional one up elsewhere and a new plastic snap trap in another place... mousy had a one in three chance of survival.
came down this morining and as i was approaching the kitchen door i could hear something being dragged about (plastic rattleing on the tiles) after opening the door i glanced at the traditional trap and it had sprung ..... no mouse though..... the humane trap had also been tripped but no mouse... the plastic snap trap however had nabbed the furry miscreant (well after a fashion anyway) there it was nowhere near where i had set the trap being dragged about by an irate and vocal mouse, it had cought it by the paw, poor wee thing. i released it into a big jar andfinally managed to grab it and had a look at his foot dunno why mind not as if i could fix it. any way mousy has now been evicted and scampered off into my back garden running on all four feet.
am gonna have to get some better traps i reckon cant be on with those soulfull eyes staring back at me reproachfully.

i would have a cat tommorow martin but i reckon my dog Max would eat it! as for chocolate being good mouse bait , i can vouch for that mice love it. the trap i used says on the box to smear some peanut butter on the top of the trap. the mouse goes to lick/eat the peanut butter and finds it can reach it so puts itself further into the trap and puts its foot on the lever to steady itself then the trap does its work. this mouse must have been preety quick to get its neck out of the way in time, either that or the trap triggered to early and only nabbed its foot. It was most put out and the look of reproach on its little face was a sight to behold. i am off to have a look for a better humane trap .......................sighs am a big softy really and dont want to kill the furry little blighters but i aint sharing my kitchen with em!

Actually id agree with your opinion regarding intrusions from wildlife ...
I wouldnt unless nessessary kill anything ... much rather let it be and put it out in the 'wild' so to speak ...
By the way ... re caught foot ... maybe the trap was too sensative! and mouse actually set it off before it got right on it!

I once had a nest of bees / wasps or summit of such nature in my loft ...
i just let them be ... come the autumn the nest became derilick and that was that ...
Only hastle to me was the occasional low flying insect ... there was in effect a constant airbourn highway from the point where they entered the roof! lol
And im in a bungalow! rofl

by the way on a lighter note ...
The offer of termination of my cat by your dog sounds quite a good idea at this point as the furry fooker is trying to predate my lunch!!! can u pick the cat up now? lol

At least you get mouse traps, my problem is frogs !! they keep finding a way into my garage and then have some difficulty finding there way back out.
we keep our freezer out in the garage and now my Missus wont go out to get the frozen gear incase she gets mauled by a frog, nightmare.
Gribbet !!!

a good humane trap is by rentokill its a squarte tube shaped like a banana. bait one end, mars bars are very good, and the other props up on a trapdoor. when the mouse gets to the end where the bait is the weight tips the trap and the door closes. you can then take it away and empty it in a field somewhere without having to touch it. (for the ladies)

Isn't it better to find out what attracted the mouse and change that, rather than eliminate the mouse because of it's instinct to survive?

Just a thought

bubbs.its getting cold outside and mice like the warmth of houses. 1) im not gonna live in a cold house. 2) i cant heat up the outside.
got another one last night! and in the snap trap as well .....and the little furry blighter survived (was a different one from the first). it was kicking about etc and i couldnt let it suffer (it was literally shi**ing itself) so i picked it up trap and all and released it outside , near to some cover. after a second it picked itself up shook itself and did a runner at top speed non the worse for its ordeal.
