Some very helpful Medical info i'd like to pass onto ya all for those in the states
Hello there, My name is Lou Anne & you know i do leather work but i'm also a nurse as well as i grew up in a family where my mother ran hospitals & nursing homes & my aunt taught nursing and all of my cousins are nures as well.
I hope you will find it very helpful. You see grewing up in the family that i had i learned alot of stuff that alot of people don't know. For example if you have ever been in the ER & you see a sign that says " we will not refuse to treat you because you can not pay for the treatment, " this is why they have to have those signs up in there ER. You see our gov. did a few things right. In 1976 they passed a law called the Hillburton Act. The hillburton Act gave federal monies to any hospital & nursing home that wanted it but they had to post that sign & take care of people who could not afford to pay for there care, including any meds they needed to fill.
A few years ago the gov. did away with the hillburton act but before they did they wrote into the law that any hospital or nursing home that got monies under the hillburton act still can not refuse to treat you if you can not afford to pay the bill. But they must wright the bill off as a tax wright off under the law they passed. I hope this info helps you & others out as well as i know alot of guys don't have medical insurance.
You see this is what the person needs to do when they get the bill in. Get the household income together & the household bills, then call the billing dept. & they will wright the bill off.
Take care & ride safe, Lou Anne

Quite interesting reading ... although i cant see myself visiting the US
well certainly not in the near future ... anyway back to the info ...
Looking at it as someone from outside the US ...
I'll assume when you say colect your household bills etc together that they assess your ability to pay? Therefore i'd assume in theory that if your visiting the US (and of course are in a possition to pay for such a visit ... you'd almost certainly have an income that would be above any threshold set out to to determine your ability not to be able to pay! However i guess some/most people do live beyond there means these days so i guess it would be worth a try! lol soz im babbling arnt i ?
By the way i know US English has taken on its own variation from proper (UK) English but i wasnt aware that in the US you spell the word write (wright ??) in the way you have ... lol soz just teasing in a joking way no offence meant and in honesty meant only in an informative education way ... much the same as your post
tc lou ...

we in the UK take out travel insurance when visiting your country as we know if your dying and bleeding without a credit card your dead.
Now here we are suckers and treat your for free, save your life and forget to send the bill.
i`m quickly going off the idea of winning the lottery and retiring to the USA, might join Rev and see how well New Zealand is doing!

What they look at is the total amout of expenses in the household including food for a month, rent or morgage payment if there is one. Then they look at how much money is comming into the household as well to see if the person can pay a little or nothing at all towards there bill. This includes your spouces income as well if there is one. I hope that helps you out some. They don't want to leave you broke but if you can pay a little towards the bill & they make arrangements to do so they are trying to help you out as well with a lower payment.

The Hill-Burton Act was introduced in 1946 and ran effectively through 1997. This was Public Law 79-725. In total there were 4.6 billion in grants and 1.5 billion in loans during the time. In 1975, Congress enacted an amendment to the Hill-Burton Program, Title XVI of the Public Health Service Act, which established Federal grants, loan guarantees and interest subsidies for health facilities. Facilities assisted under Title XVI were required to provide uncompensated services in perpetuity. A public or other nonprofit facility assisted under the Hospital Survey and Construction Act (the Hill-Burton Act), either Titles VI or XVI must retain its eligible status for a period of 20 years from completion of the assisted project. So, if the hospital came on board in 1997, they are obligated through 2017.
