Went to Elvington airshow on Saturday. Due to the weather, quite a few planes wern't able to make the show but the ones that did made up for it. The Hawker Hunters were awsome, the power and thrust wow!!!!! The Vulcan didn't fly but should some time this season.......the last time I saw the Vulcan was 15 years ago at Finningly. As usual the Red Arrows were great and finished the Sat. show off. One of the commentators there was hillarious, he kept saying the wrong things (I think he must have had his wrong teeth in lol) such as *arsepower instead of horsepower and such pmsl!!!!!

ummmm ... i believe that Vulcan u meantion is in fact a Victor !!!

Elvington Airshow Programme
Saturday 18th
Warm Up Events:
Aero Model Display
Buccaneer Ground Run
Victor Ground Run
Emercency Vehicle Parade

Personally I think you'll find the chances of any of the V Bombers (certainly not the Valiant pmsl) getting off the ground again is pure speculation from hopefull indivduals ... can you imagine the cost! ??? I'd liked to be prooved wrong but ... !!! ???
Dont take offense i remember these aircraft with fond memories.
Somewhere Ive got some pics of the last flying Vulcan certainly during the last month of it flying by the way :o)

ooops my appologies ... rofl

as you may now be aware i dont take a lot of notice of whats going on these days regarding things that fly!

however it would apear that Vulcan XH558 is not actually flying ...

from http://www.tvoc.co.uk/default.asp ...

'Elvington & Eastbourne 2007
Saturday, August 18, 2007 - TVOC
We wish to express our regret at the disapointment felt by those who may attend either Elvington or Eastbourne Airshows on Saturday 18th or Sunday 19th August in anticipation of seeing XH558 display.
At no time have we made any commitment to appear at these or any other airshow to date and nor will we do so until XH558 is fully restored and Permit to Fly is issued to the TVOC by the CAA.'

I think I saw a Vulcan fly a few years back- once at Mildenhall air show, and once when we got unofficial tickets to a family day at Marham. We went down from Brum by car- didn't fancy riding pillion! I think they were collecting funds at Waddington 2 years ago to try and get it flying again. I'm not really an anorak- my ex was a pilot in the RAF.

I believe the last time the Vulcan flew a display season was 1992 ...
XL558 arrived at Bruntinthorpe in 1993.

By the way i dont own an annorack ... lol

If you say so; I think I know the difference between a Victor and a Vulcan though!
By the way, a steam train is the one with smoke coming out the front- otherwise it's a diesel or electric!

Errrrr i wasnt doubting that youd seen a Vulcan flying or that you can identify one.
I was mearly stating when i belive the last time this aircraft flew ...
So to confirm that i was right heres the results of my investigation ...

Ive quoted from the ... http://www.avrovulcan.com/index.htm ... web site
(this is the site of XL426 - the Vulcan at Southend) but ive double checked the dates.

'The RAF's Vulcan Display Flight carried on flying a single Vulcan at airshows from 1984 to 1992. XL426 was used for the 1984 and 1985 seasons, and XH558 took over from 1986 onwards. Despite a petition of over 200,000 signatures asking for the Vulcan to be kept flying, XH558 flew her last display at Cranfield in September 1992. She was then sold and flown to her new owners, C Walton (Aircraft) Ltd, at Bruntingthorpe, Leicestershire, on 23 March 1993.'

You must have seen it on the 1992 display season or earlier.

Anyway .... re: Steam Trains (engines) ... Smoke from the front ...
eeerrrrr i think you'll find smoke will emerge from a diesel engine (especially when its working hard!) albeit from vents in it roof but they do belch out a lot of Black Smoke at times!

dumm-dee dummm .... oooops i nearly made a train noise then! tut tut tut
ooops

soz im saying all this in good humour by the way plz note :o)

By the way 'Pillion No.1' ...

The plane you thought was a Vulcan is in fact ...

Victor XL231, and is owned by businessman Andre Tempest and is kept at Elvington.
(Obviously)
It carries out occasional taxi runs at special events when they have enough money for fuel.

I know shuuuuur-up me !

I worked down in Swindon about 5 years ago. With all the probs in the Middle East we were on alert. I saw many Vulcans flying around and in 3's.

Obviously not, Kwak. If the smoke was coming out the front they were steam trains, if from the roof they were diesels!
