As much as i hate to post this, i must. Sorry people but every sunday night i do the same old thing on my PC, running test, scan disc defrage, and other things. Well tonight i found out that Microsoft has problems with there Firewall, Anti-Virus, and there Updates. So for anyone who is also running the same system please read this & do the following. Take it from a gal who has done it already & found out there are problems.
1) Go to google & type in Spybot Search & destroy It is a spyware removale tool. And there is a Free download as well.
2) Also look up Ad-aware and download it as well. It will do the same as Spybot but they find differant things.
3) Look up AVG Anti-Virus, this is also free as well but you will have to check for updates daily with it.
4) then look up Free firewalls and download 1 as well.
You see after i ran Spybot tonight it poped up problems with microsofts firewall, anti-virus, and there updates. To say the least i haven't had it on my PC from the time i downloaded XP on here. I have had the others on my computer that are listed above. So i thought i'd pass on this info to everyone tonight.

Assamite, I'm the same way after my son almost crashed a desk top with microsofts anti-virus on it. Somehow he downloaded some games & they had viruses in them & microsofts anti-virus never caught it. Feom that point on i've used AVG & Panda both. Comodo is a good firewall as well. I know i have it on 1 on my laptops. Panda is an online virus checker & it will check out your whole computer from emails to everything. I had to post that last night after i caught it on my laptop. To think of everyone out there who is unaware of the problem with microsoft.

I was 'Norton'ed up to the hilt on my old studio PC and it got a horrible virus and I ended up having the whole lot wiped and buying a new machine. Everything was set up correctly and updated daily, what a pile of pooh that turned out to be. You can't really blame Microsoft or Symantec, what about the little scrotes that sit there with there knob in one hand, creating viruses with the other, it's them we should be hunting down and wiping out. What appalls me most is that the people who create viruses end up employed by microsoft, norton etc - how can that be?
Conspiracy theorists may also say that norton, microsoft invent them so that we buy all the 'protection' software? mmmm, discuss!
hmmph.

I hate to say this but the reason why they end up employed by those people is so that they, ( micrsoft, Norton ) can get a better look into there minds & find out what wholes or gaps that they may have open into there systems so they don't repeat them again. Go to some of the hacker rooms & read just how easy is is to hack into some of the systems. I tell ya what, my next computer will be an apple because they haven't found out yet how to give apple computers viruses yet. Something to think about.

:) I work in IT security/networks and trust me Norton/Microsoft havent got a CLUE about system security... neither have Zone Alarm for that matter for anyone daft enough to download it.
Panda is superb for home users, McAfee is better but more expensive, as to firewalls Comodo is good but you cant beat Checkpoint but its a solution designed for businesses so isnt easy to use or cheap!! I could write reams and reams on how to secure your PC from getting screwed up but at the end of the day it's security vs easy of use and very few people if they are honest REALLY want to click the "OK" box every time they browse from one site to another... or blocking all email attachments unless they know who they are from.
However nice n easy things in order to minimise screwing something up...
1) If in doubt about a site/email DONT bloody open it/go there
2) Go buy Norton Ghost (or some other imaging tool) and an external hard drive and create an image of your system regulary
3) Backup all your data to an external hard drive (or 2 if you can afford it) just in case it goes pear shaped!
However if you want a really nice way to get round all the viruses and hacker just go download the Free VMWare tool, install Windows on a VMWare machine. Make the drives so it prompts you if you want to save changes when you shut down (no virus worries!) and only use that for internet access... alas probably beyond a lot of people but it is the only real way to secure your system outright.
P.S. Whos up for a bike ride when I get my beast back from the pokie... it'll need a blasting!

I love Macs (not coats, the computers) but they're so expensive and I'd have to purchase new software etc. I suppose the little scrotes will find a way into those too eventually.
Never mind all this protective software I say we go find the little buggers and take baseball bats, who's with me?
lol, just kidding although it sounds like a satisfying option!

Sorry to say but macs are in fact LESS secure than PC's because put simply... MAC and it's hardware vendors didnt bother to get seriously into the security arena until about 12 months ago... and for those people out there praising Linux/Unix it's no bloody more secure either!
To explain...
MAC unveils it's new OS X in the US and proudly shows it off, within 15 mins someone AT the event had hacked the MAC through its wireless card and taken control of it... nuff said really!
If you wanna mess with mac but dont wanna pay for the hardware google for Virtual MAC (should be free) and then go buy OS X and run the MAC os within a virtual MAC...

ya see this is what drives me mad. Everyone has a different story, and they all seem credible, but who do you trust. No disrespect to anyone you all know far more than me but everyone's opinions seem to differ.
Just had a good case here, brand new PC running XP professional (I didn't want vista as my software isn't compatible and it's a bit too new). Could I get it to write a CD or DVD through the XP drag and drop interface, could I bugger, and I ruined about 3 of each type of CD and DVD in the process. So, I install Nero, and I've written a DVD no problem, could also write them through iTunes, but via Microsoft - not a chance!!!
I hate computers and I love them.

Ewww horrible windows XP CD Writer does suck...
Most DVD Drives come with either NERO or EasyCD/Adaptec CD Creator which do the job well enough.
Know what you mean about people having completely different opinions but to be honest stick the cold hard facts in front of themand most people come to the same conclusion, it'slike riding a supersport vs a tourer each are good for their purpose but if you want balls out handling you pick the supersport... if the riders able to handle it is another matter entirely ;)

This site & info is not just for those who are running a free viruses checker but for everyone as well. You also might not know that there is a free online virus checker that will scan your whole pc as well as unopenened emails as well. The name of the site is Panda online Virus Checker. All you need to do is this. Fill out your name & email addy & check or uncheck the box that says you want to get there emails. Download a small update to Active-x & away you go. It's that's simple of a site. It will tell you if you have any problems with your pc & where they are at & they ask you if you want to fix the problem. Just like AVG does. It's a very simply and easy program to use for all ages. When my son messed up my desktop it took both AVG, Panda, as well as Spybot & adaware to fix the problem the had on the computer. Now i hope you understand why i don't trust microsofts anti-virus at all. Because that is what he was running on it when he messed it up. Take care & ride safe, Lou
