note..

Has anyone got any real experience with helmet cams and can make recommendations, or does anyone know where I can find reviews with enough information to make an informed (hence the information required) choice?

Or...

You've all missed my birthday, so buy me one?! ;-)

Or...

When did warp factor 10 become a theoretical impossibility after warp 15 was achieved and before Paris (not Hilton) achieved it?!

Or...

Can I go home now?

Use "bullet" cams a lot the problem isnt the camera its the storage device you want to use.
Again it is down to how much storage against standby battery time. Even Blueray isnt portable to that extent yet AFAIK.

Some links....

http://www.sports-camera.com/index.htm

http://www.aquaindigo.com/ http://www.toshibastorage.com/ (storage devices)

Hope that helps, all the stuff i record is done via CCTV and digital DVR`s none are portable. But all have capability of USB2 or CD-RW capabilities.

Storage isn't a problem.. but getting a decent cam at a decent price is.

I would prefer a decent frame rate (30fps) with VHS quality (or better).. I want to be able to take single frame and use them as images so aperature, exposure etc etc all relevant. Sound is another problem.. I want it but experience shows it's also difficult (given wind conditions).

All suggestions are welcome.

Thanks for the site info, I'll have a look when I have a chance.

FPS is down to storage device not camera.

Sound will be impossible if your on the moving recorder.

what you trying to achieve? Sure i can help but i need all the boundaries.

This lot seem to know what they are on about.

http://www.rfconcepts.co.uk/helmet_cameras.htm

This is the set up for a cam corder, VHS/DVR

http://www.rfconcepts.co.uk/helmet-cam-connection.htm

As you will notice you get sound, but i bet the quality will be poor due to wind noise.

Prices from £79 for a decent "bullet" cam.

Just checked my CCTV suppliers and nothing they do is really suitable for a decent price. We have to use for police evidence so the products we supply are of a higher quality and generally in fixed positions.

It's not just the storage device which handles the frame rate.. a lot is dependant on the cam to be able to support high refresh rates, low apparent aperture and high apparent shutter speeds with minimal smear, especially important at low light levels.. a basic storage device will just accept whatever it, a corder will accept what’s pushed and record it based on it’s own settings (limited by the cam), though if the storage polls for the information, then that’s another story entirely..

Sound is possible, though tends towards white noise over a certain speed, but there are ways around that.. not that I have all the details, otherwise I wouldn’t be asking =-)

Don’t forget MotoGP bikes have sound and pictures, so long as the signal doesn’t get lost and doesn’t end up in the kitty litter.. though obviously I can’t afford that type of cam.

Thanks for the new links.. I’ll have a look

PS
Speeding isn't a issue.. I never go over 45.. even in a 30!

FPS is dependant on the recording device. All cams send to the recorder, the recorder then "captures" at the frame rate its set at.

For example a DVR set at 4 FPS with 4 cameras will record at one frame per second across all cameras.

Jittery recording, you want 30FPs, then your camera isnt an issue its the frame rate recorded. Light is an issue unless your cam operates at 00.1 lux. Sound will always be whited out at speed Gp cams and mics are positioned for a single purpose and at a fixed focal point.

cheers
