i expect everyone by now has seen the news. well my farms on lock down already. no cars allowed in none allowed out, disinfectant everywhere. i think the farmers to panic terribly but i suppose they have soo much to loose=. at my park it would basically mean the slaughter of nearly 200 animals, the only animals not subceptable are my horses and my dogs, everything with cloven hooves would have to be put down. well hopefully DEFRA will get their arses in gear this time and eraicate this new threat as quickly as they did the bird flu outbreak. well my showing season has finished cos i cant travel the horses anywhere once again, all the agriculture shows have now been ruined cos the livestock entries cant go ahead. racing will no doubt be affected to. lets see what happens this time.

Mandi, I hate to hear that gal. I know your hatting it as well as it is most likely driving you up the walls. All i ask is that you google it & please read up on it. The Mayo Clinic as well as other medical hospitals over here including the national institutes of health will email you info and answer any questions yoy may have about it. This i know for a fact. N. I. H. can be found online at www.nih.gov . I hope these help out because they are 2 of the well known hospirals here in the US and they do alot of research on this kind of stuff as well. Please try to stay sane if you can gal. Be strong & i'll say a few words ford you tonight. Lou

not much we can do bout this foot and mouth lou, its a horrible disease that can spread like wild fire, it seems at the moment like they have put a pretty good action plan into force, basically we just sit and wait now, tis wierd this time tho that they aint doing the funeral pyres, instead they are carrying the animals to an incinerator, which god forbid is just about ten miles from me, im sure they have all implications of this movement covered but seems a mistake to move the animals to me

Mandi & Ox, As for the National Inst. of Health which can be found at www.nih.gov here is some info on them. The N.I.H. as it is known in the states is the federal goverments main research hospital. They have done research on alot of things from Aids, to ALS,. to you name it over here they can help you out. As a nurse when in need of help you go to NIH for help.
As for the Mayo Clinic They are the best private pay hospital but they will help you out online as well as NIH well. They are the top hospitals in the states. There are others that are top as well but these 2 are known to be the best.

ive had a weeks holiday from work, and just realised i have not watched or heard the news, not read a single newspaper or anything. the world could of come to an end and i probably wouldnt have even noticed. gonna have to go and search the internet now to see what i have missed.

LONDON (AP) - British biosafety experts are examining a high-security research lab in southern England that's suspected of being the source of an outbreak of foot & mouth disease.
Britain's agriculture department says the strain of the disease found at the lab is identical to that found on a farm just a few miles away. The discovery prompted British officials to ban the export of livestock and livestock products.
Prime Minister Gordon Brown says investigators are focused on determining how the virus could have escaped the lab. Brown says other sources haven't been ruled out, but he's hopeful that the outbreak can be contained.
Officials say no livestock has been moved from the affected farm in nearly a month.
An outbreak of foot & mouth devastated the rural economy when it spread across Britain in 2001.
