i haven't stopped smoking YET but i am down to 10 a day instead of about 25. my incentive for stopping? well apart from the fact that it might kill me Mark said he would buy me a 4x4 and a caravan if i do stop lol oh another reason is that its worrying me how long i would have to go without a cig for when we go on holiday cos i bet u can't smoke in the airport no more! so i'm off to a hypnotheropist soon so we will see how that goes. to be honest even if i don't stop i'm quite happy only smoking 10. I've told the hypno jobbie to tell me i hate food and like excersie too so i don't put any weight on when i stop lol

Good luck Roeby, it must be hard. I've never smoked so I don't really understand what you're going through, I do think it's brilliant that you're trying to stop though.

BTW - A CARAVAN - ARE YOU INSANE!!! Oh, and when you get a 4x4 get a proper one (a Land Rover) don't get a poncy faux by faux by volvo or bmw or summat cuz they're just for dizzy mums.

i recently tried to quit smoking and managed 7 days without one before the cravings got to much..... i cant use the patches anymore as they make my skin react badly, but having said that they do work and would be your best bet for the airport. the gum and lozenges taste vile and make me want to hurl.
i so want to quit as they cost a bloody fortune 20 a day is about 35 quid which in turn is £1820 a year! think of having 2000 pounds sitting in front of you roe, then imagine setting light to it, cos in effect thats exactly what yer doing..... as well as all the dodgyness associated with the dodgy coffin nails....

off for a smoke but wishing i wasnt.

A reformed smoker speaks:

Good luck to the pair of you.

Try the following, pick a significant date at least three months in the future (Better six) and say that after that day you will buy no more fags; keep going on about it and you should have a good long time to get used to the idea of giving up. It will also give you time to work out coping strategies like how you intend to distract yourself when the cravings get bad.

Finish any fags you have left when the deadline passes but DO NOT BUY ANY MORE! (PS buying 200 the day before the deadline is cheating) you'll be amazed at how long half a pack can last!

STOP when you've finished the last fag. Don't allow yourself to make any excuses like "Just one more week, it's a bitch at work at the moment"; this only makes it harder as you've already broken the rules you set yourself.

One other thing. do not suck on BIC biros, they have almost exactly the same draw on them as a real cigarette and you really miss the hit of the smoke.

For me the cravings had more or less subsided after six months but you still miss the "occasion" fags, after dinner/sex, when you're out drinking etc. At least it should be easier in pubs now they are smoke free.

But the real bu**er is that you will only succeed if you REALLY WANT to give up. I tried several times under the promise of this or that (from good bribes to the threat of ABH) but never managed until I was doing it for myself.

My name is St. Jules of oventry and it has been 16 years, 6 months and 21 days since my last fag. IF you don't include a rogue cigar that slipped over the Millenium New Year.

Here endeth the lesson.

pmsl i knew there would be remarks about the caravan lol ...... my reason is this ....... i take that much bloody stuff away with us when we go camping (in the tent) that it would be so much easier if everything was already in the van. plus i really do need my own shower and toilet not those bloody horrid things u get on the camp site. they smell vile and r really dirty.

Roeby, There is a medication as well that has had very good results here in the states. It is called Chantix. What you do is you take the pill but you can also smoke while you are taking the medication. It will give you a very nasty taste when you want to smoke however. So if you really want to stop smoking you might want to talk to your MD about it. I thought i'd pass it on to you as well. Take care & ride safe, Lou

i'm going to try the hypnojobbie first and see how that goes. but if all else fails i will go to the docs thanx lou. my problem is i don't want to stop (or maybe cos i'm addicted i say that) but i know i have to. forget the incentives they r just a reward if i do, the main incentive is to perhaps last abit longer.
