So ... "is it better to be loved or feared?" the quote is from some gangster flick but it made me think about today's society and youth in particular and them bangin on about being respected.... they actually mean we want you to fear us. disrespect me and i'll stab ya seemingly being the jist of what they are bleating on about.
Remember back in the 70's when Bikers were universaly feared? joe public thought we were all devil worshiping thugs who would rape the chickens and bite the heads off old ladies etc.... upside of this was joe public avoided the pubs we went in and basically stayed out of our way downside... we got hassle off plod (some things never change) and we would routinly be refused service in bars and cafes etc.
nowadays bikers go on easter egg runs, pet food runs and loads of other charitable events are put on, (some of em are fine such as the NABD rallies and others associated with em), this i believe has altered joe public's view about us, that and the seemingly endless biker build off type shows ..(oh and that soap opera based in an orange county bike builders).
Did bikers make a big mistake getting good PR? should we go back to being percieved as thugs and rouges who when seen, folks round up their daughters and lock em up lest we defile em (in spite of a lot of lasses being up for a bit of defilement lol).
ahh well time to put me rose tinted shades away i suppose cos time has moved on, but in awnser to my original question i reckon its better to be feared!

to be feared i believe is better ..as if to be loved we leave our selves wide open to be hurt / betrayed by some people that get in to our society...in other words those we begin to trust, personally i go for the fear bit that way you have that little breathing space that they doent get too close ?
god me head hurts after that .....well it beats saying stuff em

I don't think I've ever been either. Certainly never been feared. I think I've just been ignored and tolerated in equal measure. I've always thought strutting around acting hard was a bit crap. I hate all that gangsta posturing kids do these days but when you look back at bikers and punks and skinheads and all that, theres always been youth culture groups that swaggered around like that. They all look equally daft in retrospect. I've no idea what I'm trying to say. What was the question again?

wasnt meaning walking around acting hard (cos yer right that would be crap) i meant the reputation that preceded us (ie late 60's through to the early 80's about bikers being percieved as public enemy number one no matter about it being largley a load of old tosh written by some drink addled journo).

these sort of people have been around since time began they just think of different names for them every few years now its chavs,i must admit its never been as bad as it is now but its always been there.newspapers and stuff like to stick a label on a type of person that is seen by the comunity as a trouble maker.wonder what it will be next?
