Ok heres the problem ...
Im hoping for a few serious answers by the way !!! lol

There are some painters painting (well thats a surprise innit!) at my workplace at present. I rode my bike into work today and as per normal i placed my helmet on top of the lockers ... as do others who ride bikes.
As with most lockers in workplaces they aint big enough for crash helmets!
Anyway ... today the affore mentioned painters were pinting the locker room!
They moved the lockers and coat rack into the middle of the room so as to paint the walls. Upon visiting the toilet/locker room this afternoon I noted that although all the other stuff that normmally sits on top of the lockers (shoes, crap and two other crash helmets today) my crash helmet was on the coat rack seat. This struck me as being odd so i asked why my helmet had been moved (fearing that it had been dropped!!!) Altho the guy seemed genuine saying that he'd moved it in case it dropped, i made it clear that i found it strange that that was the only one that had been taken down!

So my question is this what would you do ...
Irrespective of anything the guy said would you replace the helmet as there could be a chance that its structural integrity is possibly in doubt due to unknown damage from this possible drop.

I do remember dropping a lid off the top of a wardrobe once and to be honest you'd have never have known ... but what that impact might have done no-one knows unless tested! At the end of the day this possible drop would have been from a similar hieght!

ho-hummmmm

hmmm...tricky one Martin,
im a painter and decorator and usually if something like this crops up i move ALL stuff from the lockers and cover them with a dustsheet......if i accidently dropped a 'lid' obviously i'd let em know albeit anomylously(?) by way of a note.....i know this doesnt help but i'd thought i'd throw in my tuppence.....i suppose there's no tell tale marks anywhere?
If so you could always try and bill the painters or your firm but i wouldnt hold my breath on getting a favourable result

to all those opposed............hmm?

your here for a good time......not a long time!!!

My supervisor had a word with them and i believe that i may be in a possition to be compensated (by who i dont know and dont care! - my firm or theres its not my problem)
However i just thought id ask the question as to what anyone made of it ...
Would you trust and hope it hadnt been dropped?

hmmmmmm

Ive just cleaned it and inspected it ...
There is a mark actually which id have thought in all fairness id have been aware of ...
Methinks im going to go with my thought that they shouldnt have moved what isnt theirs without my knowlege however hard that may seem (after all it is an item of safety equipment) ...
They are insured against liability as my firm will be so ...
sod them its my head after all !!!

you will prob find that the impact protection is on the inside ie the foam.that has obviously not been damaged so will not affect the performance of said helmet.if you can live with the mark then i wouldnt worry.if you want proof, try finding an old helmet and take a sledge hammer to it.they are bloody tough.lets be honest, the outside of a helmet aint really gonna get damaged in a little fall.manufacturers will say change it but then they would wouldnt they.personally i wouldnt worry but then again im a drummer and have very little to protect.lol.

wtf is all this about? someone [name unknown] moves a helmet...... so-f***ing what!!!! its not got any scratches on it, not that that would bother me one bit but come on....... a crash helmet is something we have to wear by law and ok, its useful when its cold or raining and its something to hang a visor on but all this crap about replacing em if they get dropped, scuffed, scratched or whatever.....bollox.
before the helmet law I rode bikes at upto 100mph [bikes weren't able to go much faster in the 60's] without harm so come on, get a life and stop all this waffle.

I reckon if you can blag yourself a new one, go for it. Theres nowt to lose and why take a chance? The helmets probably alright (depending on how far it fell and what it landed on) but you'll be kicking yourself if you dont do owt about it then have a spill and break your head.

hey! what if it get dropped in the shop before you buy it! ooooeeerrr! would they throw an 300 quid arai away? i think not, dont worry , a 6 foot drop that doesnt mark it is probably nowt to worry about, now if youd bounced off a volvo headfirst , i'd change it, if your worried just dont crash, or try to land on yer arse.

Personally i feel your making a mountain out of a molehill, but i can sort of see your concern, i feel that even if it had of been dropped your safety is not going to of been compromised, however as Gixxer states had it of been bounced off a volvo at speed then yes rightly so change it!!! I'm a firm believer that a slight knock is not going to make one iota of difference, this is only my opinion though :)

Its only my opinion, it doesn't necessarily make it right.

Tried to smash a old lid once whilst wearing it, lads belting it with a hammer. Lid took the punishment and i`m fine, moooooooooo.
A little drop aint gonna hurt it.
If its the scratch your worried about then claim. However I would not like to be in your shoes when they have to make cuts in employees after making the said claim.
