Quote "Even though a town's old high school has been disused for years, the lights are still switched on - leaving passers-by puzzled. But the illogical illumination is no accident. Almost unbelievably, the bulbs are being deliberately left burning so that vandals don't hurt themselves when they break in. Taxpayers are being forced to foot the electricity bill and environmentalists have described the decision as absurd. " From www.thisislondon.co.uk lol

Actually, I wonder if a burglar can sue me if he hurts himself in my house? What about if my dog bites him? Lights on for me from now on and dogs teeth removed I think.

actually its quite scarey nowadays, we recently built or had built rather an american type barn with ten stables etc, when we went to get it insured i was actually forced to take out public liablility insurance in case someone broke in and slipped and hurt them self, i was absoulutely gobsmacked as this actually puts £500 a year on my insurance premium, and to your question mark. if your dog bites someone breaking in you will be hauled up under the dangerous dogs act and also if the burgular slips on your carpet, your liable for all damages and personal injury claim. world gone mad aint it?

if you put a sign up on your property saying "beware of the dog" you are actually now admitting your dog is dangerous, therefore if someone does break in and gets bitten by the dog, you will be prosecuted harder as you failed to prevent the dangerous dog attacking the robber. judged guilty by your own admissions. what a wonderful system we have.

Welcome to my world. I deal with crime prevention all the time, you have to warn of barriers. Notify of the ownership of CCTV. Not allow animals to roam. Send a RA (Risk assessment) to the local police force in case a copper falls into your pool or basement in pursuit of a criminal. In which case if the RA does raise a matter the police will not investigate unless there are persons reported! Sad world!

Its bloody ridiculous that if a burglar hurts himself on yer property that he can claim agaisnt yer insurance, mind i suppose that would only happen if he was actually caught and lets face it plod aint about to pull his finger out and go look for a thievin scumbag when there are motorists to catch. The whole human rights act seems to be getting abused by crooks and ne'er do wells its about time a few amendments were made to that Act. such as " if your up to no good then you have exempted yourself from protection under the act." its also odd that if your dog bites and savages a burglar you can be prosecuted under the dangerous dog act but if you batter the burglar you will get away with it by saying you feared for your life/and or the lives of your family. as long as the crook is on your property and not trying to leave you are allowed to beat the living crap out of em ( the politicians made a new bit of legislation after the farmer who shot the burglar got a reduced sentance on appeal) As for the council leaving the lights on in the abandoned school.... i have a solution. demolish the building.simple really or better yet sell the building to a property developer (make it someone elses problem). in years gone past when someone was declared an outlaw (thieves and other assorted crooks) they were deemd to have put themselves outside the law and thus had no right to be protected by the law. seems to me that summat similar should be brought back . it would save us all a lot of cash and worry.

To quote " if your up to no good then you have exempted yourself from protection under the act." Unquote. What would the "do-gooder" brigade have to do then? Save a local post office instead? Nah thats too much to ask for, yet they are willing to let thieves and child molesters back into a community under self control as they have had their rights undermined by having to serve a prison sentence! This world is now so politically correct its sickening, yet its fine to invade and destroy on a whim. Talk about double standards. At least the USA says sod greenhouse effects, lets drill into our own last reserves in Alaska and if you don't like it we have the biggest army! Not that it is worth a toss, we all know they shoot more allies than enemies. Oops i digressed. Thieves should have every possession they own taken away from them. That way they might realise the distress ,illness and sometimes death of their victims. Tattooed so they are always known to society, and if they don't like it hung! Extreme?
