...so, I called my insurance broker this morning to change the policy over for my new car. I spoke to them in the week and they told me it would be a straight swap just with a £26 admin fee. Anyway back to the point, called them today, went through the process of reg no, car manufacturer, model, mileage, etc, then we came to modifications...... dumb arse me said yes it has alloy wheels and lexus-style rear lights... the convo went like this: Insurance Twat: Oh dear sorry we can't insure you if the vehicle is modified? Me: What? Insurance twat: Nope can't help you, your current insurer won't allow any modifications Me: What? You're telling me that I won't be insured? Insurance twat: Well...... you might be but not today as your insurer isn't open at weekends Me: Ok so you're telling me that I cannot get insured on my new car after I called in the week and you said it was fine, now I have to suffer the consequences of my insurer not being flexible... blah blah blah blah Insurance twat: Ah well you see that's why your policy was so cheap, because they only insure standard vehicles Me: The alloy wheels are standard sizes, same as the original wheels Insurance Twat: Nope sorry, all I can do is start a new policy with a different insurer, let me get a quote, please hold....... 5 minutes later they want to charge me £600 which is double what I paid for the last car, plus I would lose my no claims bonus for this year (That I am now 9 months into)! After alot of arguing and then resorting to "trying" to be diplomatic and polite, I ended up saying that I would have some standard wheels fitted and the rear lights changed to standard as it would be cheaper. They insured me straight away! Obviously I do not intend to change anything on the car, I'll just get my ncb for this year and feck the bassa off for a better broker next year. So people be warned, ask the insurance company on taking a new policy if the insurer accepts modifications. Rant over!
