Once again the threat of microchiped waste bins rears its head.
According to a leading source new bins paid for by Labour are being tested in Northern Ireland ( A regular testing ground for Labour policies).
The £140 000 scheme will provide 250 000 families with "spies" in their bins.
Minister David Cairns confirmed this today.
Northern Ireland has been used for years as a proving ground for new ideas as it is ruled from London and plans can be put into practise by ministerial decree.
What this would mean is a reduction in waste collections and a further charge of about £10.00 per week for the average family!
Notwithstanding the increase in fly tipping, the infestation of rats and other rodents.
Teach me to pick up a newspaper ehh........!!!
cheers

i think it is stupid putting spies on our bins, they also reported that they are now only going to collect waste every 2 weeks, imagine the smell in the height of summer.....uch. mine gets full quickly as i have a large family, after 2 weeks i will have black bin bags sitting beside the bin which they won't take coz its not in the bin so the rubbish will pile up.
something needs to be done about this, before we get to the stage where we have to call in infestation people every week to get rid of the rodents

well up here in cumbria we have the once a fortnight grabage pickup , one week its a black bin with stuff that goes to a tip and the next week its a brown bin for the compostable waste. also we get a further pickup (on a monday once a fortnight) for paper, cans, and glass.
its been like this for over a year. never seen a rat, no smells (the bins have lids) though i did see some maggots once. its not as bad as the folk that write the Mail would have you believe, in fact its pretty easy once you get into the habit of sorting out what goes where. Bigger families get much bigger wheelie bins etc so its no real hardship. it does annoy me though that council tax bills will go up and the public seems to be getting fewer and fewer services. i seriously doubt it will make any difference who is in power to the current situation , after all council tax bills were forever going up under the previous mob and no doubt they will under the next lot.
i do think that if councils are requiered to impliment the recycling ethos on us all via the wheely bin then they should have the decency to cut the tax bill cos after all they get paid for the stuff that can be recycled plus they sell the compost that is made as well.
All in all the scheme makes sence though it does take a bit of getting used to i'll admit, the current scare tactics of health matters that might arise from rubbish pickups however is a load of bollocks.
