Now before you all turn up the heat put on a large pan and fry me.
Are the charges concerned here for going over an agreed limit?
Too high yes, but you agreed the limit, you know what you have to spend. Its a constant struggle to get all my direct debits sorted on time what with stupid dates ect (yes i have tried getting some changed, to no avail) so i make sure stuff is provided for at the right time, and no charges.
Oh well i`m gonna burn for that anyway, i can tell.
Ho hum

oh my oxy baby lol
no it has nothing to do with how much u agreed didnt agree or what, its to do with how much the banks charge peeps with goin over there overdraft, its been proven that the cost is actually only £4.50!!!
so why do they charge £35.00?
amazingly cause so many peeps are now taking on the banks they are having a special quick turnabout at the end of next month and are putting the amounts you pay down to at least £12.00.........

See that bit above, GOING OVER.
Not an agreed withdrawal, over and above the limit set, begged for previously. Its unauthorised and as such is subject to a charge plus interest at base rate + whatever they set out in the rules. The fee for the letter on the other hand is I feel absurd. Having seen m8ts fall about showing me a letter from managers saying your overdrawn and thats cost you £25/35 whatever AS THEY BLOODY KNOW THEY ARE OVERDRAWN.
I have read the link posted and note a group of respected bankers agreed a fee of £5.00 ish for a letter is fair. Does the link take this into account or is it after all charges to be refunded?

You will only get interest back if it goes to court I think, and I bet the banks dont want that.

tisnt about wether you agreed to the limits set by the bank its about the charge not being enforceable under english common law.
there has been a case recently of a bank getting sued for 3500 grand and failing to return the money etc. the bloke doing the complining sent the bailifs in and they seized computers etc at the branch in question. the bank has since settled the bill.
if you do plan to take yer bank to court (easy as anything now you can do it online), expect your bank to refund the money and promptly close yer account. dont let that stop ya mind there are plenty of banks.

I was merely pointing out if you didnt go past the agreed limit they would not have tried to enforce these charges which we all now know to be false.

i asked my bank for an explanation of said charges and i told em i wanted my money back, they sent me a lovely letter saying 'We (HSBC) are not directed by the government to refund your money nor will we do so........so i suggest we all ask for every detail held about us by the bank under the freedom of information act. THere will be a small charge (less than a tenner) but imagine having to go through every piece of info thjey hold about us....methinks they'd soon cough up our monies????

HSBC are a pack of twa**.... tisnt the government thats involved . its the financial ombudsman.you can demand for all the details to be sent to you if they wont play ball you can indeed take an action under the freedom of information act. i am looking forward to hearing from hsbc myself as i fully intend on making em pay back every penny they have had out of me .

oh and if you happen to have your statements for the last 6 years.... add up all the charges and add 8% this is how much they owe you. then use the online service to sue em for the money. you can take great pleasure in sending the bailiffs in to your local branch if they dont play ball. (if going down this route make sure you have opened another bank account with someone different).
