Buel lightning?? ok its a harley engine i know, but what`s the general opinon. Thinking of getting a test ride next weekend to see for myself but i value the opinon of previous owners more than a salesman. Wont part with my Bandit right enough...she will be with me till i pass her on in my will !!!

sporty motors can be fragile... they need lots of maintenance and you have to keep on top of it (rather like ducati's in that respect.) thing is lots of folk have gone out and bought em with the mistaken idea that you can abuse one in the same way aas you can a jap 4. you cant. oh and the fuel injection ones used to run very lean as well get it remapped.

For what my opinion's worth, I love the look and sound of them. I have no idea what they handle like or whether they are reliable - it depends what you want from it - whatever, enjoy!

my mate raved on about how great they were and after parting with a lot of cash he ended up with a loverly lighting in his garage and thats where it stayed with problem after problem ,electrics, fuel starvation, ect, he got his money back after a lot of wrangling so beware where you buy i guess

Probly the funnest bike i have ever ridden, and boy do they handle absoloutly fantastic, plus loads of character.......my freind has one and i steal it at every opportunity....even with the standard can on it set off 4 car alarms when i pulled into the car park at work. Really well worth a look im very tempted myself towards the beginning of nex year, very clever and great fun,,,,just blag the test ride anyways, is like nothing you have ever ridden before.......and dont be knocking the harley lump, remeber the engine is actually a bueel design built for them by harley, To which harley has now asked the nice mr buell if they can use them for their sportser range as it is a better lump. do it!

Great feedback, thanks. Lol @ robey that was funny !!! Im just drawn to the looks and sounds and i guess the best advice is have a ride then decide. I just think it would be full of character and loads of fun a bit like my mates guzzi lemans, one of the new ones...not the fastest by a long shot but a treat to cruise around on. shit I must be gettin old !!!! Thanks folks.

tis a good plan to have the fuel and oil where it is really as it lowers the centre of gravity. buells are first and formost a race bike design. so they do handle. the power plant is the suspect part though its a 1200 sporty motor as far as i know, i have heard of fuel problems with em (ie running way too lean. summat to do with getting em through emmision legislation in the US.) get em re mapped and should be ok. sporty motors can be fragile though. seen a few of em and they arnt exactly the fastest bike on the road but they take off well.loads of tourqe etc.

if it was such a good idea do u not think Honda would have used this method years ago and kept with it?

i don't care what they have or don't have ..... what they do or don't do ........ they still look like they fell out of the ugly tree and hit every single branch on the way down lol

si just cos honda havnt done it dosnt mean its not a good idea! honda are great at exploiting other companies ideas maybe they just havnt got around to this one yet. roeby yer right its not the best looking bike out there but then its different strokes for different folks i guess. havnt heard of any complaints about their handling or brakes either. like i said the motor is suspect as far as im concerned have heard of a few of em having catastrophic gearbox problems. and other assorted problems. a lot of em are down to not enough maintenance being done. the main concern for me is still the running way too lean and as i have said a remap of the fuel system should sort that out.
