been many years since i even looked at a ped so couldnt recommend anything that is new...... avoid like the plague anything from china. (they are cheap for a reason!) if you can get hold of a FS1E yam thats running it will be fine but probably very expensive as the classic mob have been buying them and others to restore. have a word with yer brother as he will no doubt have an opinion. also try having a wander along westgate road (a true mecca for bikes when i was younger, dunno if it still is mind, used to be every other shop on the road was a bike shop or breakers yard etc). Ebay is a good bet as well though the days of bargains on there are long gone you may get lucky. look in yer local free rags and local papers, shop windows etc. and get someone who knows what they are looking for when you go to have a look at yer future ride..... dont just buy it cos you want it, chances are it will need work and if you know what to look for its handy to beat the price down with.

i have to agree with u martin on the decent training front, does that make me an old fart too? lol. i recommend a honda, they go on forever and parts r easy to come by, espec if u get an older model. what ever u decide to get, have fun and ride safe.

Honda is not a bad choice, but don't get it just 'cos it'll last a long time. I'm sure you'll be looking for something bigger as soon as ur old enough to ride something bigger. If ya learn to ride on a piece o' junk, it doesn't matter if ya drop it! (well, maybe it will matter when ya digging the gravel out...)

very true tc, i was just thinking that if he does drop it, it won't cost as much to repair as a rs. my boy has a 1996 city express, it gets him from a to b and doesn't cost much to repair or run and he loves it. prob is now he has his eye on my cbr 600 when he gets bigger lol
