hmmmm its a tough one ........... i wouldn't have thought of our children as been in poverty (bloody hell they all have phones and x-boxes for god sake) but i would say we r breeding a nation of nasty pieces of work. I feel that one of the main reasons is that we have so many teenagers having children that they can hardly look after themselves let alone a child. The other area i feel we have fallen behind in is respect and manners our standards have dropped dramatically. think about it in years gone by we all had a lot less money but our children were happy respectful and always had something to do. what is there to do now apart from hang round in gangs been threating to others? i know for a fact in spain which came about 5th ish and greece that came about 13th they r very family driven ....... they do things together alot. we seems to send our children off to do as they please (actually mark and i don't but thats not the point) and i know this might sound daft but i think the weather has a great deal to do with it as well. if u live somewhere warm u can just go for a family day to the beach and have fun .... here u have to pay to do something cos its probably cold or raining so therefore u don't do it as often cos it cost u a fortune.

i agree with roeb... in spain or france kids are looked uopn as little adults and are allowed into resterants and cafes in the towns if they make a noise they dont shout at them, there not made to feel like'children should be seen and not heard' like they are here.
i also agree it has a lot to do with the weather here, we find it difficult to find somewhere to go on a sunday without forking out aload of money we havent got to go somewhere inside, even just goin swimming now costs at least neary £15 for a family of 4.
We like to take the dog for a long walk in the woods or at sherwood forest, its free, but it also rains a lot...
we for one are looking at trying to emigrate just to give our kids a better life,
oh and my 2 have perfect manners and always say please and thank you, i was brought up that way so mine are aswell.

Well its probably a bit harsh, but here in Ireland we will shortly have a referendum (plebiscite) guaranteeing constitutional rights for our children recognising them as citiizens with rights. I know in the UK the idea of a constitution is not a reality but all citizens in Ireland are guaranteed certain rights which makes change difficult, the family in Ireland is protected by the constitution and the state can only intervene in special circumstances. I often feel that Ireland is often behind Britain in certain things, but family values were high here, but sadly we are catching up and are suffering the same problems, success breeds problems, but kids have to be guided and cherished, if there's no mark for kids to match up to what can they do. Parents are the guardians, make the kids know that. Be parents know what they're doing at all times.

t isn't that here is worse than anywhere else i think everywhere has there own problems, but i think the main reason is family values and standards have dropped the world over. and i believe that has come from too much interference from the goverment telling us how we should or shouldn't bring up our children and by taking away powers to parents and police and teachers etc ........ the children have the law on there side and they no it so y would they have any respect for that? now i'm not a religious person i never have been BUT think about something else that has gone on the missing list ....... hymn singing and prayers at school and sunday school. even if it didn't make them believe in God it still taught them values and compassion and understanding etc ...... it might not having anything to do with how we r today but its just something else thats gone. and all these changes from "the good old days" must have had an effect cos its worse today than it ever was then.

i'm on a rant now sorry ............. another thing i just thought about ....... when my mum was 16 and pregnant back in 1970 with me it was still a stoning offence! people looked down there nose at her etc and it wasn't liked one bit. get back to been like that stop making excuses for kids having babies stop saying its ok and everyone does it. and lets stop talking about everything!!! y do we have so many trisha like shows? i'm sure stuff like that has been going on for years and years but it was kept private and u dealt with it u didn't get sent to a theropist to "talk about it" when at the end of the day they usual put what ever is wrong with u down to something stupid that happened to u when u was a kid!!!
