just had a leaflet through my door saying "vote for labour" in the local elections on 3rd May .......... now i won't be but there was something interesting on this leaflet. Apparently since the Lib Dems took over Chesterfield 4 years ago the car parking charges alone have gone up by wait for it ........... 878% !!!!!!!!!!! and its set to go up by more too and there r threats to charge blue badge holders as well pmsl i thought it was getting more expensive lol and apparently our council are forecasting to lose money between now and 2009 ......... maybe they shouldn't have put that brand new reception and walk way up to the housing office then eh? especially when there was nothing wrong with the old one. its a joke and all the local councils r as bad as one another ........ they should be run as a business, keeping costs done for the consumer, offering good services and all they have to do is manage there money better and not waste it on usless crap!!!!!!!!!

Scotland unfortunatly cannot run itself financialy. even if they had the revenue from the oil there would still be a shortfall of several billion pounds a year..... Scotland IS subsidised by english and welsh tax payers money (dunno about the N.irish tax payer). As Loz has pointed out scotland is doing very well on creating jobs and various other social things (including health and education etc). Im not sure salmond has got a mandate to offer a refurendom on independance and im less sure that he would get the result he thinks he would. Sprag... no worries not bothered about being called a numpty iv been called worse lol. and as for your choice of bike i wouldnt dream of slaggin it off.

I think I heard the Scottish financial deficit is around £11 billion per year. Also the Scots get around £1500 (may have been £2000) per head of population per year more than the rest of us (English,Welsh) from Westminster.

well dont worry about it... now the SNP are in if we go independant we'll sink finincially so youll all have the last laugh! they want to base our whole economy on the oil industry, on oil that will run out within 30 years, and oils on the way out now anyway! even if it DOESNT run out before we can find our feet, then itll prolly be so highly taxed and frowned upon everyone will be using alternative sources within a while! the only place where scotland could possibly make a financial stand would be if millionsperhaps billions was invested in tourism! we already have a strong tourism.... industry lol, but its not enough! i demand someone builds a disney land in fife!!!! thatll solve everything :D

Public spending of around £50billion and Revenue of less than £40billion. The maths is pretty easy.

froog no one is slagging anyone off, don't be so touchy. i was just saying i didn't understand what the crack was. If Scotland (and wales) want to be independant then thats fine. but if it is then it should fund itself NOT be funded by England, which it is, thats just not fair. Right now it seems to be a case of everyone is having there cake and eatting it apart from England. How come that in a general election u all get a vote for who gets in to westminster but yet we don't get a vote on who runs your parliment?

froog m8.... the deficit for scotland is real and therefore to run scotland's finances the money to run scotland in part comes from westminster ie subsidised by english and welsh tax payers..... i mention this only to bolster the view point of scottish independance not being a good idea and not to slag off the homeland of my parents. I dont reckon that there are enough scots of voting age that actually want independance so Salmond is on a hiding to nothing. For a start if independance was granted there is no guarentee that westminster would give scotland the oil revenue anyway. Tourism aint all its cracked up to be loz. The figures look great on paper for instance on bank holiday weekends over 10 million quid is spent by tourists in the lake district. That dosnt put any money in my pocket nor the pockets of the many of folk in cumbria. Tourism is notorious for paying low wages to its employees. So sprag do you reckon the bnp councilers will actually do anything now they have been elected? i only ask cos when they were elected in other areas they famously didnt bother to turn up for meetings and didnt vote on anything ( well according to the press anyway) which seems to me to be a betrayal of the folk who voted em in. Back to scotland ...does salmond have enough seats to force a referendum? or does he need a bigger majority?
