Oh god here we go again! Forums are a place to express your personal opinions and debate various matters, and this is what we are doing. I can honestly say that all of the people that I ride with now (sportsbikes riders) are safe and read the road, a few years back I would ride with anyone who wanted to go out but now this has changed as I view my own safety as paramount. I rode with lots of people with custom bikes last year, they were the worst riders I had ever encountered, maybe not in terms of speed but certainly in concentration and hazard awareness. Also the fact that alot of them would be under the influence certainly didn't help their cases. In fact during last summer I saw more bikes dropped than I had in my previous years of riding with sportsbike riders pmsl Again this is my personal opinion of the people that I rode with during this time. Maybe we should all communicate with each other and ride with different "stereotypes" to understand why they ride the way that they do. I don't think that the type of bike you ride determines what sort of person you are. Everybody learns, some people learn the hard way and others use preventative methods. This is the individuals choice and I know which route I'd rather take. I agree bear the same could be said about alot of riders/drivers on the road and it's down to the inidvidual to protect themself from harm, do not rely on others to do it for you because they will not.

Expressing an opinion is what a debate is about. dosnt mean that folk will always agree with you. Also stating that someones comment shows they are "ignorant" or "selfish" or indeed bigoted are personal and insulting comments . I respect your right to state your opinion but i draw the line at letting an insulting comment go by without reply. oh and if you look on another forum post you will see the bikes i ride are mostly stock machines (to save you the bother GSX1100, XJ900, GPZ500 and an XT250 so mostly sports or sports touring bikes) Now if im riding my bike in traffic that is moving along at around the speed limit and a pillock on a sport bike howls past me and the other road users at speed in excess of the national limit (putting himself and others at risk due to oncoming traffic) if he makes it he's a good rider is he? This happens often by the way, let me assure you when a mile or so later up the road you see the same bike mangled and the rider lieing in the road you will change your mind.No amount of leather/cordura/expensive lid is going to save someone if you hit a stationary vehicle/object at 100+ mph or indeed if you Tbone another vehicle cos they are turning across the road. Iv lost count of the number of times iv heard news reports (up here) where the dead rider is described as a bike enthusiast that wore the best protection money can buy only to end up Dead. Thats risk compensation in action. The better (safer) the kit you have the more likely it is there will be an accident because the rider/driver considers himself to be equiped to escape harm so they take risks!

Sorry Bear there was so much to reply to that I forgot. None of my comments regarding ignorence or selfishness have been aimed at peoples comments or personalities, I was merely expressing my concerns of peoples actions and their consequences. Nor was I making any suggestions about the type of bike that you ride. The truth is that we are both very outspoken people, who say what we mean, I certainly haven't taken any of your comments personally (water off a ducks back and all that) and hope that you haven't either. I think we have both made enough "points" now, we both disagree with each other and are both right in accordance to our values. We obviously just have different views and values. Now shall we draw a line and agree to differ? Or change the threads title to "Bear v Bubbles"?

Smuuggee here! I agree w/ Big Smokey & Martin. Choose or lose. Dressing up in a leather Race suit will protect your skin & give you a false sense of invinsiblity. Too many times have i seen Racer X off because of that false sense. But Hey Opinions are like butt-holes everyone has one and they all stink. Beez-wiz:(-

Bubbs, at least you realise you ride with 'sportsbike riders' and not 'bikers'....
