Here's a thought from Benjamin Franklin:
"They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."
Discuss.

David Coleman professor of demography at Oxford University has said that only the arrival of the French Huguenots from France in the 17th century was comparable in terms of numbers. While that may have been a bigger migration as a percentage of the population he calculated, the absolute population movement in the past 2 years was the single biggest in British history. The government wildly underestimated how many people were coming into Britain and thats why there are now strains on public services.
A total of 427,000 migrants from eastern Europe registered for work with British employers between May 2004 and June 2006 according to the home Office. Once the self emplyed such as plumbers and cleaners were added the total was nearer 600,000.
In January next year Romania and Bulgaria are set to join the EU.According to certain Think tanks like Open Europe this could bring a further 620,000 migrants.
Below are the figures to date of how Eastern European migrants are spread..
East Anglia: 64,980
London: 58,580
Midlands: 51,370
Central: 44,480
Northeast: 40,765
Southwest: 37,220
Northwest: 36,555
Scotland: 32,135
Southeast: 30,680
Northern Ireland: 16,405
Wales: 10,770
Other: 3,155
Britain was the only large European economy that let them in. With the exeption of Sweden and Ireland, All other EU countries opted to block them for up to seven years.
It was the hope that Britain could escape the adverse consequencies of ageing in terms of low growth and and rising taxation, that faced its European competitors, by boosting its younger working population by immigration. The trouble is that its influx has suddenly got out of hand..

Come on guys enough!
I have only just read through the entire thread and my opinion of alot of you has changed dramatically! I can't believe that there are still so many racist, fascist c*nts out there!
First it was blacks, then indian/pakistani's and now muslims. ffs if you can't stand living here any more rather than slaggin other races off feck off and live in another country!
For those who haven't met me, I am mixed race and have lots of asian/muslim friends who are all perfectly respectable (some of them have even moved from their birth country to the UK in the last few years. Maybe you should try talking to some of these "immigrants" about what it's like for them before you start judging on a minorities cock ups and beliefs.
I work with a muslim guy who, after the bombings in London last year, has had bricks thrown through his house windows, two cars torched and his wife beaten just because of his religious beliefs.
It's pricks like you that contribute to spreading these bad vibes.
I will not be coming back here for a while unless people start to keep their offensive opinions to themselves or do something about getting out of this country....

I say - this is fun isnt it!
Keep it as a debate and we shall all hopefully learn a lot!
At the end of the day "a C*** is a C*** whatever/whichever/whoever he/she is"
A reasonable thinking person with care for him/herself and those he/she comes across is all anyone should really be proud to proclaim! :o) and no im not at all religous! yuck! could eat one nun out but not a convent full! ooops !!!
Take that however you care to !
Actually what i meant to say is > You voted them in > if you dont like it > vote people in who do what you want! We do have the choice you know!
And no im not into politic's either! Yuck cant even imagine doing that! (and like that!)

bubbles .... have you ever been spat on and called trash by asian youths? i have.... i dont as a rule have much of a problem with race at all however when snot nosed brats take it upon themselves to rubbish this country and blow stuff up i feel i have the right to vent about it..... and yes it was only a few that blew folk up but there are plenty among the asian population who openly support such measures. why should i leave the country of my birth i am perfectly happy with the british way of life it is rather those malcontents who want sharia law brought in that i take issue with. if they want to live under such regimes then they can take their pick of the countries that use that kind of "justice". though im sure you would be appalled by the methods that such regimes use.
i am sorry that you feel i am a racist facist cnut but thats your right to hold that opinion. (your wrong as it happens i couldnt care less about the colour of yer skin or indeed anyones.)

Bubbles a lot of my friends are muslims.. and the people that worked in my nursing home are black and asian and irish and english..I have probaly more black friends who helped me when everything was very low than any of my white friends ..I have often written on here about my Iranian friends who gave me and my daughter a fabulous Christmas when it was nt even thier religion andf we had nowhere to live.. I am just concerned about the intake of eastern european members when we have so little ourselves...It would helpit will put tremendous strain on all of us..and that includes you and me and most on here... I am not racist and never never will be. The government need to temper things for everyones sake.

Bubbs, sorry hun but you have over-reacted there i feel. You know a few of us from here and have we ever treated you like your saying there?
As for having to listen to this triabe, well it is a open forum as is every other on the internet, unless you count a few very cliquey ones that only open doors to vetted members ( seem to remember that failing). Everyone is allowed to have a say, thats why your comments are allowed here too.
Chill hun, you knows we luvs yas.

The problem :-
No-one can agree to disagree
Everyone has had their own experiences - be it good or bad - and that goes for both sides of the argument - and that unfortunately tempers the way we see things
I have an asian landlord - (no problems - I have a dog too and he's not overly happy but he's OK about it)
I have asian friends - (beautiful people - and the kids are adorable)
I had an asian boss - (what an ass wipe)
I've taught immigrants from all over - ( some wonderful people, some where here for eveything they can get from us)
I'm not allowed to be a racist in my profession - I'm not anyway - just that some things seem to be so unjust and when I see my children suffering - thats when it hits me the most
Thats it - end of bitching session !!
