did anyone watch that driving me mad programme on itv @ 9pm last nite? well it was all about slagging off 4x4 ........ it was a really biased view in my opinion. Not only were they saying that they give out more co2 emissions they were saying that if u r hit by one u r more likely to die. well on those 2 points alone u had better rid our roads of all vans buses and lorrys then cos they r far bigger and there r more of them on the road and they chuck out loads of crap. they showed u an accident of a 4x4 doing 60mph going in to the side of "normal" car doing 30mph anyone in the "normal" car would have been dead. all it made me think was that i wanted a 4x4 far more than i already did cos if u r gonna have a crash i want to be in one of them.

Well as i live in London and we are home of the Chelsea tractor here are some of the problems. Mostly women drive them (lets not debate this one too much as its a fact here in London) They cannot judge the width of the vehicle, so they cut across the centre divide forcing people to swerve and stop when they have right of way. This also makes them wary of turning left so when they indicate left they swerve to the right and then make the turn, ITS NOT A F***ING ARTICULATED LORRY FFS!. As its so long and wide they park on corners or by Zebra crossings as its too difficult to put into a normal parking space as allocated by the local authorities.Even in car parks they have difficulty. They assume you will always give way to them so become even more arrogant. As most have a 4000 cc V6 or more they race to 50 in a 30 zone then slam on the brakes as another vehicle attempts to pass on the other side of the road. They are the major cause of traffic jams in London, on the "school run". Everyone seems to have a mother in "trakkies" suppin a cup of coffee with several tarquins and samathas in the back fighting. During school holidays the average speed doubles and travel time halves! They (this is actually reported somewhere i`ll try to dig it up) use the bumpers to push other cars out of the way to park and cause parking fines on unsuspecting victims. Want more reasons why they should live in the country then?

Maybe the police in London should concentrate on getting bad drivers off of the roads, that isn't a 4x4 problem it is people with no respect for the road and other road users. I think you will find them in most vehicles. I have had similar problems with van and lorry drivers, especially in London. Maybe the 4x4 drivers on school runs is a problem you have in London but not one I have noticed up here and yes we do have them. Perhaps new tests should be introduced for different classes or vehicle, just like there are for large trucks, lorries, public vehicles etc. You pass your test you can drive a Corsa, focus etc., you want to drive something bigger (engine size / weight / physical size ) you have to pass another test, then more tests for each grade of car/4x4/van/pickup etc. Also a compulsory 2 year theory test to make sure we all keep up to date with the highway code.

Sorry Roe, but its not a London thing. Most drivers here are very aware of surrounding road traffic, we have to be as its a bit busy at times. The 4x4 groupies just don't give a shite. They assume you will try to avoid them,if you don`t so what, Hubby Daddy Stockbroker boyfriend (delete as needed) will pay for damage and buy new 50k Cayanne or wotever. Poor old joe public gets his motor smashed to bits loses pay, you get the drift? As for the police Mark, what a farce they are here and elsewhere..........Where are they? All we see is ponced up traffic wardens with a legal right to stop you for 15 mins without force or let you go until the real ones arrive ( Yes 15 mins is all they can stop you for, so if stopped start your watch/phone timer) then tell them to FO. Most officers now are on stupid duty and never see the streets, put the wanna be`s on the desks and the trained intelligent officers back on the beat. This would halve crime almost over night. I should know, my work is directly linked to ACPO and i know the views held. I digress, the 4x4 issue is one of "I`m better than you" in city situations. They cannot drive them to their potential in town and if they ever saw a muddy hole they would shit themselves. A good example of why they should not be in city`s.......... A tank is great for warfare and chasing troops ect, ever seen one in your local car park? (Sod off the smarty pants who have for exhibition purposes) grrrrrrrrrrr PS, just had to buy another permit so i can park in my local area on Wembley event days! Be warned if you drive here its a clamp or tow away. So if you are coming here for an event and have to drive I have one off road parking space available for negotiation of beer tokens :D

banging head against a brick wall springs to mind I don't have a problem with 4x4 drivers and up here i have not had a problem with any and i can't see that they drive any different to anyone else infact i would still stand by the fact that people in vans and lorrys r the ones that don't give a f**k if they pull out on u and they deffo drive more aggresive and they take up more room when parking etc. anyway i had one and loved it and i and as soon as i can i will have another one. I wouldn't have a probelm with taking an extra test to drive one properly altho i must admit i never had a problem parking even in tight multi story car parks even tho the little old boys and girls in there weeny little cars seem to. hmmmmm maybe it is just a driver thing not the vehicle!!

"anyway i had one and loved it and i and as soon as i can i will have another one. I wouldn't have a problem with taking an extra test to drive one properly" So you didn't before? :D The thing is where you live roe you don't have the congestion we have and don't see the problems these 4x4`s cause so much. As for beating your head.....you asked for comments and got them straight from the heart of experience. xx oxo

i did ox u r quite right and i am sure with the lack of space u have down there u would certainly look at big vehicles differently, but surely u class the people wagons and the vans with the same sort of annoyance as a 4x4? they r after all as many of them and bigger than a 4x4. oh and froog no i won't buy a corsa cos aren't they all drove by boy racers and crap female drivers? or is that stereotyping? hmmmmmmmmm i wonder.
