i expect everyone by now has seen the news. well my farms on lock down already. no cars allowed in none allowed out, disinfectant everywhere. i think the farmers to panic terribly but i suppose they have soo much to loose=. at my park it would basically mean the slaughter of nearly 200 animals, the only animals not subceptable are my horses and my dogs, everything with cloven hooves would have to be put down. well hopefully DEFRA will get their arses in gear this time and eraicate this new threat as quickly as they did the bird flu outbreak. well my showing season has finished cos i cant travel the horses anywhere once again, all the agriculture shows have now been ruined cos the livestock entries cant go ahead. racing will no doubt be affected to. lets see what happens this time.

Errrrr 'lou' calm down !!! lol

It is possible for 'Foot and Mouth' to transfer to humans but it is very rare.
Defra quote 1 case in 1966 ...
I note that 2 suspected cases were reported in 2001 but i believe only one of these could possibly have been 'Foot and Mouth' in a very mild form.
It is very rare in humans and as such does not transfer from humans either.

Please note though there is a completely unrealted disease called ... wait for it!!!
'Hand Foot and Mouth' that does occur in Humans ... but this should not be confused in any way with the disease that was the initial subject of this thread.

Fingers crossed for you and all livestock farmers mands.I know a lot were devastated when all their animals had to be slaughtered. mind you a lot of others were rumoured to have made a lot of money shifting animals around so they were counted more than once for compensation!

no humans really cant get foot and mouth but they can be carriers as its an air born virus. the only animals that can get foot and mouth are cloven hooved, horses are safe thank god, but all deer, cattle, sheep, goats, llamas and alpacas are susceptible. so there ya go hope that clarifys to you.

Hey mandi,

It was good to chat to you guys last nite had a good giggle. I hope all your animals will be ok and that you pass this threat ok. I am a big animal lover and i would find it hard if the animals i loved would have to be put down. Keeping my fingers crossed for you.
