i did read this yesterday afternoon on the virgin home page it was on the front page, but was a little busy to post

the rider who died was Marc Ramsbotham a first timer at the TT and he ploughed into 4 spectators, 1 died at the scene and 1 died in hospital 2 others where treated for injuries.

For one who has been to the TT twice you do get very close to the racing and if a rider does lose control they can very easily come into the crowd.

very sad i know but they do know the risks
respects to his family

Agree fully with vibro!
Yeah, sure, ban the TT,then what do they ban next because its too high risk!
Boxing,wrestling,rallying....................................
Then maybe when all high risk sports are banned, perhaps they need to move on to darts, snooker, table tennis....................
There will always be those for and against, nature of the beast!
I personally hope for another 100 years on the island.
The participants know the risk, let them get on with it!

our thoughts are with those families and friends of those involved.

just a thought, people die whilst playing football, but have never heard anyone mention that it should be banned.

Fred,Having the TT,and road racing in general, has caused outcry from people here in Ireland for years.
Its just, all you folk in uk mainland dont hear about it as road racing is mainly associated with Ireland as we have no racetracks here, only road circuits.
But beleive me,campaigners have been calling for years to have the TT and road racing banned here.
Its manly been from politicians.Again, they probably are worrying about nhs expenses to injured riders,Road improvments on circuits, etc and its not the fact that they are worried about the riders health and well being.

Ox, I doubt very much that the spectators knew the risks. If you attend an event they expected to be , and should have been, protected better than they were. My deepest respects and sympathy who all who were killed. RIP.

Whilst visiting a friend in hospital in IOM (no it wasn’t a bike accident!) we spoke to a lad in a wheelchair with a broken leg and sat outside the hospital having a fag. After saying the usual stuff “well lucky you aint going home on a box” he said he wasn’t riding a bike but had been watching the Southern 100 when a racer ran over his leg! Tut.

He had been speaking to the wife of the rider that got killed during the Seniors race on the Friday. Seems that the guy hit his shoulder on a wall going up the mountain road, he was killed and his bike shot across the road rider-less. It flipped into the air and hit the two spectators that were walking high up on the grass bank to the left of the road. The scary thing is that Nick and I had been planning to watch from that very spot the evening before….

dont like the tt me.i love racing but for me its too risky.its like puttin yer tackle in a lions mouth an kickin it in the nuts.having said that, respect goes to people who ride it.shouldnt be banned, its up to them what they do.i just choose not to watch it.i want to see people race, not die.they must get such a rush.better to live one day as a tiger than a lifetime as a worm as quoted on red dwarf.but then who ever heard of a worm skin rug?
