I've been thinking for some time about setting up my own business and have decided to take the plunge!! Need a bit of advice about registering the company name and domain (.com and .co.uk) but don't know where to start! Have the business plan underway including projected turnover/revenue and set up costs. Will need a bit of help with the designing of the website too once I've registered the domain, so any "free" help would be appreciated.... when I say free I can stretch to a few beers/vodkas :o) Thanks in advance xx

Watch for the VAT returns there is a method where you can invoice in advance and pay later. Your accountant will know this, its just slipped my mind what its called atm. This will help, its probably better to get VAT registered asap as you can claim back on items. http://www.lloydstsbbusiness.com/support/businessguides/introduction_to_VAT.asp Hope thats of some help oxo

Good tip, from experience at our place is any electronic goods etc, buy LG, mainly because of their great warranty you get 3 years, and if anything goes wrong they operate a return and exchange item, all at their exspense, a courier will come and collect whilst at the same time dropping off the new item. all be it that it may be a recon unit, has saved our skin many a time, normally about5 2 days before a big job that we have to ship it all out!1lol

Sold trader gives more leeway for cash deals, but the stakes are far higher if you fold. Not that i wish that on you but bear it in mind. oxo

Last company i "managed" I quadrupled the turnover with a new product/service. My thanks a directorship that never appeared, the VAT returns went thru the roof and I was replaced with someone who cannot run a computer or operate sage. The company has since folded and been renamed as a limited one, for obvious reasons. Nice to see employees appreciated, but this isnt a moan, its a fact of life that people get used. cheers

Good luck Bubbles...been there (twice) and decided to get out for personal reasons, but you can do anything if you put your mind to it. My daddy use to say...all you need in life is a good Doctor, soliciter and Accountant and you'll do fine!

Thanks again guys :o) There is no way that I can operate as a sole trader as my clients can only deal with ltd or plc's due to their own accounts systems..... bit of a pain in the arse really but hey I'll make it work, it's not as if I don't understand the industry and job, just need to get the finer details sorted and understood. Does anyone know where I can buy a new memory.... sh*te I'm gonna have to remember things now eeeek I'm not gonna be buying anything until the month before i go live, so will register for VAT next month. Thanks for the tip though oxo woxo poos lol I'm all excited now but need to get things right so trying not to rush with anything. Registering the co name and domain's tmw, gonna start making templates for website, letter heads, cards etc soon as well as completing the business plan. Busy times ahead! It's all thanks to a very special person giving me not so gentle nudges to take the plunge, although I expect there will be a time when I could kill him for pushing me..... life (and work in this case) is one heck of a journey. xxx

Actually in England its 30 days. For a new business. Limited allows this: Company Limited by Guarantee A company limited by guarantee is a membership organization in which the members' liability is limited to some nominal amount such as £1. The membership can be quite large, or it can be limited to the trustees. A company limited by guarantee can be not-for-profit in nature. It is a legal person. Companies House registers companies limited by guarantee. ox
