did anyone watch that driving me mad programme on itv @ 9pm last nite? well it was all about slagging off 4x4 ........ it was a really biased view in my opinion. Not only were they saying that they give out more co2 emissions they were saying that if u r hit by one u r more likely to die. well on those 2 points alone u had better rid our roads of all vans buses and lorrys then cos they r far bigger and there r more of them on the road and they chuck out loads of crap. they showed u an accident of a 4x4 doing 60mph going in to the side of "normal" car doing 30mph anyone in the "normal" car would have been dead. all it made me think was that i wanted a 4x4 far more than i already did cos if u r gonna have a crash i want to be in one of them.

ok just a pony what people drive is there own business whilst I agree no need for them in citys if u want a 4x4 thats ok they do not pollute as mauch as people think there are many cars that have far worse emission figures than 4x4 you get idiot drivers in all sorts of cars and if we say people shouldnt have 4x4 do we then say you shouldnt have a motorbike if its your second form of transport I think not. Lorryis trains buses emit far morte poillution per mile per pereson carried then a 4x4 fact check it out Mike rutherford wrote an excellent article on this a few months ago. I do not have a 4x4 but think choice is down to individuals and not down to tv programs. If this or any government were that keen to avoid pollution they would insist that by 2010 mevery major city in uk was t have transport that was lpg or electric but no because that woulkd cost business monet so they carry on with green stealth taxes to the individual and suck people into hating 4x4 just a thought

Hmmmm ... the reality as i see it is People are people ... a crap driver is a crap driver ... Be it in a 4x4 or whatever ... 4x4's are currently in the 'must have' status symbol league ... Therefore they fall into the sights of TV producer wanna-be's after promotion! Hence i'd guess the program the other night! (i didnt see it by the way) If all the must have brigade are driving 4x4's then its more likely there will be a greater proportion of idiot drivers associated with the said vehicles methinks Hey just a thought ... One day the 'must have' mode of transport will be ... a Motorbike !!! OMG ... Cant wait for the program on that irksome mode of transport! ... NOT! rofl

I don't want a 4x4 and I am not a 4x4 fan, but... Rev_ - A young woman in a Corsa drove into me on my bike after a week of owning it therefore all small cars should be banned. Froog, These nice new 4x4's cost a lot of money so I am sure they can afford knickers for under their fur coats. Wraith, 4x4 poseurs? You prefer to go out in your sports car... What about people who drive their vans and pickups for non business purposes? What about caravan owners when reversing, would they see kids behind them? When we say 4x4's do we also mean 4wheel drive cars, like the Panda 4x4? Maybe there is no need for 4x4's in the city, but, is there really any need for powerful race bikes on the road? Why don't we all buy scooters, still two wheels, low CO2 etc. We buy big bikes because we enjoy them just like the 4x4 drivers enjoy their vehicles. You sound like the lobbyists that are constantly trying to restrict our use of our bikes.

Mark, the point i was making was mostly about the use of 4x4's in the city, although i imagine if a corsa ran me off the road maybe i'd have flew over it, maybe it would have came off worse(?!?!?!?) but i wouldnt admit it!!!!!!!! These cars have their specific uses well according to the brochure anyway.....do they have pictures of a frumpy mum with 6 kids and a load of bags from tesco in the back? No they have these mighty beasts and some of them are nice btw, tranversing canyons, rivers, quarry's and the like.......not city tarmac! and on a another point what was the purpose of that 4x4 Panda?????!

so whats everyones view on these 7 seater people carriers then? they r about the same height and same width as a 4x4 but they r longer too so surely they r more dangerous. so if everyones arguement is that they shouldn't be on the road cos they r off roaders (altho they can actually do both) how about the manufacturers make something that looks the same but it CAN'T go off road would that be acceptable then?

strange how we can brand 4x4 drivers as all the same, yet we bikers are always quite proud of what a diverse bunch we are, coming from different backrounds, different riding styles, and abilities. Im not a 4x4 fan, I can see how good they are in more rural settings, but hey if people want to use 4x4 for the school run then thats their choice. enjoy the road whatever you drive/ride, just be safe

dont like them people carriers either..... bloody transits with a superiority complex.quite honestly i would sooner there were a lot fewer cars full stop. a 4x4 belongs in the countryside.... there is no point in 4 wheel drive in an urban situation. they guzzle fuel like its going out of fashion. Most 4x4's seem to be luxury cars these days anyway... whats the point of takin yer 50 k car with its all connely hide interior to places where its likely to get muddy anyway? i dont have a problem with Proper Landy's mind but even they dont make for a great practicle car at the end of the day. more folk on bikes and less in cars is the way to go!

but thats not gonna happen tho bear. and like i just said if the manufactuers made the same looking thing but it wasn't for off road use what would be the problem with that? and the fuel and c02 bit on new models isn't that bad either.

not one of u has answered my point yet ......... IF 4x4 looked like they do and if they were all like the newer models that don't chuck out a load of c02 and better on fuel BUT they WEREN'T made to beable to go off road what would be your argument against them then? forget the going off road bit they can't they can only drive on the road whats wrong with them now?

just another point ........ u all seem to have a bee in your bonnet about the fact that people don't use em to go off road. does that mean u should use any vehicle to its capabilities then? cos if so all sports cars or high performance vehicles better start driving about @ 200mph!!!!!!!!

I am afraid I got better things to do with my money...like buy another Harley! LOL Which I hasten to add I ride whenever I can... hey and guess what!! I have had more people not see me on that who drive smaller cars than I have 4x4's...nuff said LOL
