I suppose u have all heard about the shootings in the USA, do we think that people been able to have guns is the right thing to do when this sort of stuff happens? I know u could get one ilegally and still go round killing people but it makes it alot hard to get hold of one in the first place if they aint legal surely? http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/6562259.stm

Bazz the pro gun lobby were infering that if the students were allowed to carry guns themselves then the gunman may have thought twice about going on a rampage due to the risk of getting shot himself. kinda dont think that would have worked out as the gunman in question shot himself after his killing spree. however had the other students been carrying weapons there is a good chance that the gunman would have been shot (perhaps to death) by a bystander. its an effective argument. There is a saying in the US that if you outlaw guns then only outlaws will have them. not a good situation as we over here can attest to. It would be better if folk just went toe to toe with each other and sorted their problems with their fists but at the end of the day a gun is a "great equaliser" and if a wimp gets access to one and feels agrieved enough they will use it to gain some sort of "dont f*ck with him" reputation. Its odd though that the US has the level of gun crime it does when compared to other countries that have similar levels of gun control.

I hardly think that shooting yourself is a wimpish sort of thing to do! For somebody like this kid if people had cared or acted he would have got help..... instead because of his "mental instability" he is now a murderer and suicide victim. None of his actions were that of a sane human being. At least he is at peace now, it's such a crying shame that he had to take so many innocent people with him (especially for his and their families). I do not see what the point of guns are, especially in peoples houses, handbags or cars. What are your views on the death penalty? Or compulsory government service on leaving school?

Cheers bear i didnt hear that part, but is a good argument, in that he may have taken fewer lives as somebody may have acted.

Wimps use guns to give themselves a reputation pure and simple. as for taking your own life not being wimpish.... he was and is a coward. suicide is the easy way out. as for my views on capital punishment. im against it. and as for government service (take it you mean national service for all ) im against that as well, wether military or community based its a method of getting cheap labour, and lets face it if someone dosnt want to be there they arnt going to do a great job.

National service would not work in this day and age, there are enough peep sin the forces who dont really want to bethere anyways... not only that it takes away one of our great freedoms and libertys. The forces are not for everyone, it should not be pushed upon people now, During a dire time as in such a war that it was required, well then id like to hope we wouldnt have to impliment it but that people would stand up and prtoedt what we have fought so hard to achieve. There are so many reasons why it would not work in modern society i think the largets one bing the H&S brigade etc, which has gone overkill in so many places, yes i know we need it, but some ares there needs to be some lenency. For national service to work the officers and ncos would need to be able to deal with people who step out ofline accordingly to enable them to become an effective fighting force. Be honest if it was you and you wanted to be there, would you really like to trust somebvody who has been told they have todo it for 2 yrs, with a weapon by your side to cover your back? or would you rather have somebody there who wants to be there like you? I know which id rather have. And suicide was the easy way out, running away from his crime and problems, in this instance but sometime in some circumstances i beleive that suicide could be the hardest thing any individual could choose to do. As for capital punishment, i say no, as for a total re-evaluation of the prison system then yes, we want cheap labour use the prisons tae all the s**tty cra**y jobs out there and put the prisoners to work doing it, our prison system is to soft it does not do anything, even some of the sentences that are given are ridiculous.
