i agree with ya bubbs ......... what clothing u wear doesn't in my mind put u in any sort of box ........... your riding however does so if i see a lunatic riding on the road if i get chance i do let em know what they r.
Riding a bike is dangerous i don't care how carefull u r or how good u r or how long u have been riding are even if u never take it over 40mph ........ u can at any time come off and at that point surely to god u want to make sure u have as little damage done to u as poss. this is not a fashion thing this is a saftey thing. simple test ......... fall over on your own 2 feet on the pavement and u will probably pull some skin off now fall over on the same pavement in leather and the leather MAY be scuffed. it doesn't take the brains of einstein to work it out!!

i always wear my leathers while riding, its not me im worried about its all the other idiots on the road, and like Roeby i too will tell people if they are riding/driving like idiots, i go out everyday assuming i am invisible, cos i usually am, i take every bend as if there is a sheep/tractor in the road, this as some of you may think is boring riding, but at least i am coming home everyday unlike some of my departed friends.

just to make a point ............. when i say "leather" i mean all types of protective clothing instead of jeans and t-shirt which offers zero

lol@ the wasp thingy rsv pmsl
Just after I passed my CBT I was using the 125's in the evening to get some more practice in. Left visor open and only doing 25ish and then smack a wasp hit my cheek! It was swollen for days and looked like I'd been beaten up lol
I used to wear textiles when riding (well half textile and half leather) but even they don't always act as a second skin. Like Roebs I wore jeans to do my test, but back then I didn't realise the danger of doing so.
Surely this should be taught from CBT? and maybe they should make protective clothing compulsory on any two wheeled moving thingymajig? And before anyone says it, it would not be taking away your freedom of choice.... the equivalent in car terms would be wearing a seatbelt.
Martin...... did you mean tempting? or temping? Soz hun I'm confused..... again lol

if I remember correctly advice on protective clothing is part of the CBT, or perhaps it was just the instructors I had being sensible chaps.
as to compensatory thingy, it is correct that some people feel safer when wearing protective clothing therefor take more risks. its the same with car drivers when wearing seat belts. daft but true.
and I dont think its "your choice" when it also affects family and friends when anyone is injured. most accidents are low speed and within a relatively short distance of your house so knicking down to the shops or similar is the most dangerous time.

When I worked in the Dainese shop, the amount of people that used to come in to buy a jacket, but no trousers, "because I wear jeans to ride in" was staggering.
Surely to god, if you are only going to wear one part of the outfit, it should be the protective trousers, your legs being the most vulnerable bit in a spill
I personally won't even pop out to the petrol station without full leathers and gloves, and i made damn sure that my kids were completely kitted out before they even got to sit on the back of the bike lol
It makes me cringe to see people with inadequate clothing on bikes, and I really don't care whether it is too hot, full protection is an absolute must IMO

Yeah protective clothing is part of the CBT.
But im sure they said jeans was ok but leather trousers were better.
Prehaps there should be a reduced price on leathers and saftey equipment to encourage people to wear leathers. Finding best part of a grand to get yourself in the "correct" equipment isnt easy for some people im sure.
