Mike has been in an accident on his bike yesterday involving a car. I don't know all the particulars of the accident. I do know that he is in intensive care and might possibly lose his left leg. I know he was conscious at some point because he asked that Scott and I be contacted but we are not allowed to visit him just yet because we are not family. I'll keep you all posted...... Keep him in your thoughts and prayers. Connie

Hello its Mikes Mum here Mike was finally moved to North Staffs City General on Tuesday. He will be ther for a month or 2 according to the staff at Leighton. He is in ward 107. The visiting times are 2-4pm and 6-8pm. Phone 01782 552706. Parking is not as expensive as it is at Leighton. £1.50 for 4 hours instead of £2 for 2 hours. They seem pretty strict on the times as they kept me waiting from 4.30 until 6pm on Tuesday. They may lighten up later. At least one thing though he has a TV in the ward, even if he can't see it from his bed he can hear it which is something. Mike wont be able to access a computer there. He got the re-hab staff into trouble at Leighton for using 'inappropriate web sites'. The doctor was gong to examine his leg yesterday to decide on his treatment, so I will know more perhaps after I visit tonight. It is too far for me to visit everyday now I can only go a couple of times a week and at weekends. I've arranged to finish early 2 days a week so I can get ther for 6pm. I'll keep you posted on how he is.

Hello Its me again Mikes Mum, If all is well with Mikes blood cultures tomorrow he will be going to theatre Saturday to start his skin grafts. He has been told it will be very painful where they take the skin from on his good leg. It will be about 14 days before the dressing will come off that leg but only 4 to 5 days for his stump. He cant wait to be mobile again but is a little weary of this new op. I'll let you know how he gets on, at the weekend.

Hello Everyone, Unfortunately Mike did not have his op at the weekend. They starved him Saturday, should have had the op at 3 pm, postponed until 8pm, postponed again until 2 pm Sunday. Starved again Sunday, he was being wheeled out of the ward and was stopped by the Staff nurse, Doctor wanted to see him. Doctor said they has found bactereal growth on his wound and would not operate until the wound was clear. He has had a vinegar dressing on since Sunday, the wound is clearing BUT he is now covered in a hot itchy rash all over(looks like he is alergic to vinegar). What a way to find out!! I will let you know when I hear anything more. Jenny

Hello MikesMum here, Went in to see Mike last night, they have changed the type of dressing so his rash is going down. He wont be having surgery this week just has to wait until all the infection has cleared up. A couple of the girls from this site came in to see him and that cheered him up no end. You know who you are and thanks a million for that even though one of you came from quite a distance. I hope you found your way ok, after nearly following me back to Runcorn he he !! Mike is always happy to see visitors even if its for the first time, though they dont know him as 750ninja in hospital so your best asking for Mike Austin in ward 107. I'll keep you all posted on his progress. Jenny
