as of the 1st July there will be a smoking ban in England in all public places ........... thats me having more dinner parties then. Altho a friend of mine who is opening a new club in Sheffield is putting something up outside undercover with patio heaters for us smokers, mind u he is a smoker himself so i think its more for him lol i'll just go out more during the summer when u can sit outside rather than winter. watch out they will want to take it further next and ban u smoking all together even in your own home!! wheres the freedom of choice gone? why not have smoking areas inside pubs etc with big extractor fans in em to get rid of the smoke? there r still alot of smokers out there u know!

well personally i'm glad because i don't smoke and so if i go to a pub i leave with everything reeking of smoke. but that said, it doesn't stop me going out if my friends choose to meet somewhere where there's smoking. and doing this isn't going to stop the smoking!

knew it was coming.
playing devils advocate but what about the rights of non smokers to not have to inhale 2nd hand smoke? Roy castle died of lung cancer caused by (accoriding to pathologist) second hand smoke! he played in lots of smokey jazz clubs but never smoked himself.
me im a smoker, but when it comes down to it i enjoy a pint way more than the smoke, so come the new year i will once again be quitting the weed... more to do with its too bloody expensive these days than owt else plus am hacking me lungs up every morning as well so the time has come.
mind you i dont see a problem with pubs making their own minds up and having smoking rooms etc or not . there is a non smoking pub near me and its alright too.... wouldnt want to smoke in there to be honest.

Yeah,Its going to happen here to.As a smoker,it dont bother me but i think a lot less people will go out.It has been in force in southern ireland for around 2 years now, however, one smart bar owner in dublin had a good idea.He bought an old bus, reversed it tight to the rear door of his bar and uses it as a designated smoking room.He isnt breaking the law as its not a permanent structure.Smart cookie!

dont smoke here either and dont go out cos the smoke actually makes me feel physically sick, so hate to say but i welcome a total ban with open arms..not sure how they are gonna stop people doing it tho, for instance pub full of rowdy blokes on a saturday night? lots of extra work for the police i suppose if they all light up.

tis down to the landlord in the first instance... they can get a 1000 pound fine per smoker or summat like that so i doubt they will let folk smoke rowdy or not.

I'm glad the ban is in. Roebs mentions freedom of choice. I choose not to inhale other people's smoke, I have that right in a public place. When I have to walk behind smokers in a built up bit of the high street it's awful. It's akin to someone coming up and pissing up my leg and expecting me to put up with it. It stinks, it kills, it looks really common.
I'll get my coat.

I dont think a lot less people will go out - more non smokers will go out surely because it will be a much nicer environment to be in.

I wasn't impressed when it happened here last year, but it's funny how easily you adjust.
I know loads of folk who have been smokers for years and have now given up, so good health to them, personally I like a smoke with ma beer's and it's all good being outside in the summer, but winter has made me cut right down.
There'll be moan's and groan's to start with but it ain't all that bad really.

so what do we think about 'street drinking?' and a thing i REALLY hate is gobbing in the street , and dogs shitting every where, (we poop scoop , nothing like a handful of warm, fresh poo in a carrier to cure that hangover) well not me,(not my dog! lol! good job dawnes got big hands!) and littering , and vandalism , have i covered everything? our postman left a big green un on my drive one day, i complained ( dawne wouldnt let me run after him with a baseball bat) he got shifted...i believe- act outdoors as you would in your own home...
no replies from some clever sod whos just had an eartha kitt in his living room!
